This 1955 Jaguar XK140 roadster was built in October 1954 and distributed new in the US through Hornburg of Los Angeles. The car was acquired by its current owner in Canada in 1989 and subsequently received a refurbishment from RM Auto Restoration in Ontario, including a repaint in Signal Red. Power is provided by a 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six that was sourced from a Jaguar Mark I and installed prior to current ownership. Additional features include a four-speed manual gearbox, twin SU carburetors, black leather interior upholstery, a black soft top with matching side curtains, chrome wire wheels, and a dual exhaust system. This XK140 is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, records from the refurbishment, and Ontario registration.

Originally finished in Light Grey, the body was stripped and refinished in its current shade of Signal Red during the 1989 refurbishment, with repairs to the sheet metal carried out as needed. The brightwork was removed at that time, and chrome trim pieces were re-plated or replaced. Additional exterior features include a set of fender-mounted mirrors, Lucas “J” headlights, and driving lights flanking the grille.

Chrome 16” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and wear Michelin X tires. A new black soft top was installed during the refurbishment after the top frame was sandblasted and repainted. The top can be seen in its raised position in the photo gallery below. Matching side curtains and a tonneau cover are also included in the sale.

The interior was re-trimmed during the refurbishment utilizing black leather in place of the original red upholstery, while matching carpeting covers the footwells and center tunnel. The seat bottoms were re-padded and lap belts were installed for each occupant. A newer radio has been fitted under the dash.

A refinished four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer and a reserve-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer indicates that just under 2k miles have been added since the refurbishment.

The 3.4-liter XK inline-six (number KF8032-8) is from a 1957 Mark I and was installed at some point during previous ownership. The cylinder head has been painted red with “Type C” valve cover emblems, replicating the factory appearance of a Special Equipment XK140 head. The engine breathes through twin SU carburetors that were rebuilt during the refurbishment. An oil change was performed in spring 2020, and a new battery was installed in August 2020. The seller notes that the porcelain finish is flaking off areas of the exhaust manifolds, and chips are also noted in the paint around the hood latch. A compression test with readings for each cylinder can be viewed here.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. An area of paint damage is noted on the chassis where brake fluid had previously leaked. Additional images of the underside are provided in the gallery below.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the build and dispatch dates, as well as the original colors and component numbers. Invoices for the 1989 refurbishment are shown in the gallery, as is a 1989 appraisal. Videos attached below include a walk around, footage of the engine running, driving, and a ride along.
