Car to be at auction 1/11

    Auction description:
    Arizona
    Thursday, January 20, 2011
    1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe
    LOT: 114
    Chassis No. S807258
    Offered Without Reserve
    - From the Bill Jacobs Collection
    - Matching-numbers RHD Drophead Coupe with 42,500 miles
    - One family car from 1955-2001, fully documented restoration

This XK140 Drophead was sold new to Leo Holzer of Scarsdale, New York by Blanchard Motors of Greenwich, Connecticut in Fall of 1955. On Leo’s death, it passed to his son Ed Holzer, who had a fully-documented restoration done by JK Restorations of Oswego, Illinois from 1999 to 2001. The next owner was Michael Ksiazek of Burr Ridge, Illinois in 2007, before it was acquired by Bill Jacobs.

This car was restored in its original black paint with red leather interior and with a tan canvas top. The paint is superb, the body panels fit well, and the doors shut very nicely. The interior wood is excellent, and a push-button radio is fitted. The engine bay is clean and correct. The car carries chrome wire wheels and twin Lucas spotlights, and it is fitted with brand-new tires. A C-Type head adds additional power, while the history file is complete with the original operating, maintenance and service handbooks as well as the original keys, ID plate and a host of restoration receipts. The car presents superbly and is a proven tour performer, having successfully competed in the Colorado Grand in 2009, driven by Mr. Jacobs.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
