This 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Fixed Head Coupe was completed on April 22, 1953, and initially distributed via Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles. It was acquired by the current owner in 1980 and underwent a refurbishment that was completed in 2024. Work involved refinishing the car in British Racing Green, refreshing the tan interior, and installing a five-speed manual transmission. Powered by a replacement 3.4-liter inline-six that is equipped with a C-type cylinder head, the car has a split front windshield, chrome bumpers and bumperettes, front driving lights, 15″ wire wheels, Smiths gauges, and tan leather upholstery. This XK120 SE is now offered by the seller on the owner’s behalf with a California title in the owner’s name.
The seller states refurbishment work included removing the body, refinishing the frame, and refinishing the body in British Racing Green. Exterior equipment includes a split front windshield, chrome front bumpers and rear bumperettes, front driving lights, and fender-mounted mirrors.
Wire-spoke 15″ wheels are mounted with Remington Endeavor tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. The four-wheel drum brakes were serviced and the spindles were replaced during the refurbishment.
The refreshed cabin features bucket seats with tan leather upholstery, which is complemented by color-coordinated carpets. The seller states that the wood framing inside the doors and trunk was replaced as part of the refurbishment.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts centrally located Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.
The replacement 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was installed prior to the current owner’s acquisition and is equipped with a C-type cylinder head. The seller notes that it was overhauled and fitted with a replacement harness in 2024.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a rebuilt five-speed manual transmission, which the seller states was sourced from XKs Unlimited and installed as part of the work completed in 2024.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate shows production information and identification numbers.
Chassis number S681126 is shown on the data plate affixed to the car, and the engine number W82428S is listed as the VIN on the current California title, which is a duplicate.
