Car Condition: Under restoration to Show/Driver
This 1953 Jaguar XK120 FHC is a fabulous example to be restored to a Show/Driver level. It has previously received most of its nut and bolt correct and documented restoration work by Jaguar professionals, and Classic Showcase has purchased the car to see it through the completion of the restoration. In its previous restoration work the body was stripped to bare metal, metal worked, fit all body parts and chrome, sealed, primered, painted base coat, clear coat, color sanded and buffed. All mechanical systems and components were gone through and restored. Classic Showcase will check all prior mechanical work to ensure that the level of work and correctness to Jaguar factory specifications has been met or exceeded. Classic Showcase’s talented upholstery department will be custom trimming the interior with all new raw materials, fitting and installing a new complete interior to include all correct British materials, leather seats and new headliner. All new rubber seals and grommets will be installed. All instruments will be restored, new stainless steel exhaust system installed, aluminum radiator and all brite work will be re-plated. It features a 4 speed transmission, wire wheels and documents/ receipts from all previous restoration work. A DVD of the restoration will company the car. Upon completion of the restoration, with no expense spared, this will be a superb example ready to enjoy, drive, campaign and compete in your favorite Concours.

Auction description:
1953 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe
Chassis No. S680774
Estimate: $120,000-$140,000 US
AUCTION DATE: Saturday, August 20, 2011
- Heritage Certificate
- One of only 2,678 XK120 Fixed Head Coupes
- Frame up restoration
- Less than 200 miles since restoration
The 1953 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe presented here has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration. Before the body was finished in the current glossy grey/blue, the body was stripped to bare metal, reworked, sealed and sanded; primer, base, clear coat and color were applied while all body parts and chrome were meticulously fitted. Of course, all the brightwork has been re-plated and fully restored to concours quality. The wire wheels were restored and painted to match the body as well.
Marque specialists Classic Showcase of Southern California, who conducted the restoration, report that work included an overhaul of all mechanical systems with both fully restored or newly replaced components as necessary. Accordingly, the engine, transmission, starter, generator and shocks have been rebuilt. A new suspension was installed along with a new wire loom, aluminum radiator and stainless-steel exhaust system. The interior is just as spectacular with grey and cream leather seats and new headliner with meticulous attention to accuracy by using correct British materials custom tailored and fitted by specialists at Classic Showcase. New grommets and rubber seals were also installed throughout. The interior instrumentation was restored along with the steering wheel and the walnut dashboard woodwork. With a DVD documenting the restoration, the result is nothing short of outstanding.

The Scottsdale Auction

Scottsdale, The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa
This gorgeous Pastel Blue over two-tone light and dark blue leather was completed on February 10, 1953 and dispatched ten days later to West Coast Jaguar distributor Charles Hornburg, Jr. in Los Angeles, California. Originally finished in black over red hides, the first owner was not recorded and the known history does not begin until 1973, when the car was purchased from a used car lot on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood by Keith Frick. Already having been repainted and reupholstered in brown on brown, it was understood that the car had come to the dealer from its second owner -- who was described as "a sheikh".
Frick would keep the car for nearly three decades, during which time it was restored twice. The first restoration took place in 1994 and the second in 2009. The extensively documented 2009 restoration was completed by XKs Unlimited and the Jaguar specialists at Classic Showcase. The body was stripped down to bare metal, while the drivetrain was overhauled, with anything deemed needing repair or replacement rectified with correct components. Photos, a DVD, and over $30,000 in receipts document the work completed and accompany the car.
The present owner acquired the Jaguar in August of 2011 and has driven it only a handful of miles since, during which time it has been kept closeted in a heated garage and regularly maintained. Documented by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and having covered only about 200 miles since restoration, this beautiful XK120 Fixed Head Coupe would be a great entry to any number of historic rallies, or a run to the local Caffeine and Carburetors meet on a Sunday morning.
