Auction description:
Historics at Brooklands
1952 Jaguar XK120 Fixedhead Coupé
Registration TBC
Chassis Number S 680698
Engine Number TBC
Estimate £68,000 - £80,000
This superb XK120 fixedhead coupé has been subject to a body-off restoration and as such presents in beautiful condition. Clearly a high standard of workmanship adorned this lefthand drive Jaguar, the quality of which can only be appreciated if viewed in person. Finished in green metallic with Biscuit Connolly hide and matching carpets. Mechanically this car is a delight, the engine bursting into life when request and sounding exquisite with good oil pressure. A stainless steel exhaust system has also been fitted. Previously part of a significant private collection, this Jaguar XK120 fixedhead coupé is a real head turner.

I acquired S680698 in September 2020. From the paperwork that came with the car, we know very little of its history. There is a 1961 DMV Wisconsin title in the name of Lloyd Larson, with a later ’64 validation stamp. It was owned by a Dennis Butterbaugh of Minneapolis from at least 1976 to 1984; he seems to have spent a fortune on restoration and maintenance. From '89 to 1998 the car appears to have passed to a Mr Herb Recktenwald of California, there is a copy of a California DMV title. The last clue as to history is what might be a Dutch shipping document from April 1999 from Assen.
The car then appeared with UK dealer DD Classics in 2019, sent to them, they tell me, by an Australian supplier who reputedly buys cars around the world and them places them with dealers for sale. DD have no record of from whence the car came. The 2019 auction history is known (see above). The XK went to one other UK owner before my acquisition.
It is now being converted to right hand drive with a five-speed gearbox and front discs. Clearly, the car has at some time, been expertly restored, whether that was in the US or Holland is not known.
If anyone has more history, I’d be grateful to know.
