Engine Number: W 6955-8S

Gearbox Number: JL 14603

Body Number: J 2518

This is a numbers matching 1953 Jaguar XK 120 FHC SE that is part of a private, collection. This XK has been very professionally restored between 2007-2009. It reveals to be a comprehensive, frame off, nut and bolt, no expense spared endeavor.

This Jaguar runs and drives very well, displaying excellent road manners. The engine is strong, smooth, runs cool and does not smoke or leak oil. The transmission is solid, quiet and precise shifting. The brakes are also smooth and predictable and do not pull or pulsate on application. The suspension has been completely renewed. The handling is precise and predictable and rock steady at speed. The instruments have all been restored and refaced. They look incredible and function correctly. The exhaust note is melodious . . .. unmistakably Jaguar. Special attention to detail is obvious where ever you look. The exhaust manifolds have been re-porcelainized and the use of correct brass hardware was used where called for.

The body panel fit and paint finish were executed to a very high standard. The red leather interior is all correct, supple and gorgeous. The bright work on the car is excellent. Included with the car are side curtains, jack, spare tire, brass knock-off hammer, "T" key, owner manual and Jaguar key fob. The tires are new radials mounted on chrome plated wire wheels.

This Jaguar XK 120 FHC SE is probably of the nicest in the US, an impressive showcar

This 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE is a Fixed Head Coupe that was completed on December 16, 1952 and distributed in the US through Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California. Work carried out between 2010 through 2013 involved rebuilding the 3.4-liter inline-six and dual SU carburetors, replacing the rear differential, refinishing the knock-off 16″ wire wheels, and installing a five-speed manual transmission, front disc brakes, an aluminum radiator, and a custom intake system. The car was refinished in silver in 2019, and additional equipment includes red leather upholstery, driving lights, burl wood trim, and latch-and-link seat belts. Recently acquired by the selling dealer, this XK120 is now offered in Massachusetts with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, service records beginning in 2010, spare parts, and a clean California title.

The car left the factory finished in Lavender Grey and was repainted silver in 2019. Equipment includes a split windshield, driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, and dual polished exhaust outlets.

The 16″ wire wheels were refinished in black in the early 2010s, and they are secured with two-eared knock-offs and wrapped in Firestone Cavalino Sport 200 tires. A spare is mounted in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The idler arm was fitted with replacement bushings and pins in 2022 and adjustable tie rod ends were installed.

Red leather seat upholstery is accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and burl wood trim. Equipment includes a slide-out storage tray, a locking glove box, a cabin heater, and Simpson latch-and-link lap belts.

The four-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock. The tachometer was rebuilt and the clock was replaced during the work in the early 2010s. The five-digit odometer shows 19k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt in 2010, and the dual SU carburetors were rebuilt in 2012. Additional equipment includes a polished valve cover, an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, a custom intake system, and an automatic coolant overflow tank. Service in July 2022 consisted of resealing and tuning the carburetors.

A five-speed manual transmission was installed in 2013, and the rear differential was replaced the year prior.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date in March 1953 and lists original colors, component numbers, and distribution through Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
