Sellers description:
XK120 DHC RHD 1954 for sale
A very attractive 120 DHC in dark blue with biscuit interior. This car has cooling upgrades to make a very usable XK which is in lovely condition. We have sold this car twice before and maintained it to a high standard for both customers. As one would expect it has a comprehensive history file. The 120 DHC combines the delicate lines of the 120 with the comfort of winding windows and a folding roof.

Lot #129127

This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was built on January 14, 1954 and was acquired by the current owner’s late father in 1974. The car was stored from approximately 2007 until 2019, and recommissioning at that time included a refresh of the interior as well as rebuilding the SU carburetors, overhauling the fuel system, and replacing the brake master cylinder. It is finished in white over red leather upholstery and powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes body-color 16″ knock-off wire wheels, a black soft top, front driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, and a spilt windshield with side wind deflectors. The battery, engine mounts, and front wheel cylinders were replaced in preparation for the sale. This XE120 SE roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with service records, an operating manual, a Jaguar Production Record Trace certificate, and a Pennsylvania title.

Finished from the factory in Cream, the car is said to have been repainted prior to 1985. A replacement black canvas top and boot were installed in 2019, and the car is equipped with front driving lights and fender-mounted side mirrors. The grille was repaired in preparation for the sale. Blemishes are visible.

Body-color 16” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knockoffs and wrapped in 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A full-size spare with an older tire is mounted in the trunk. Braking is from drums at all four corners. The brake master cylinder was replaced in 2019, and the front wheel cylinders replaced in November 2023.

The cabin was trimmed in biscuit and red from the factory and was reupholstered in red leather in 2019. The seat backs were rebuilt at that time, and replacement red carpets were installed. Features include a height-adjustable rear-view mirror, a heater, a wood shift knob, a passenger-side grab handle, and map pockets in both doors. A choke cable is mounted under the dashboard.

A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 15k of which were added by the current owner. The total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and was rated at 160 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque when new. The carburetors were rebuilt in 2019 following approximately 12 years of storage, at which time a Pertronix ignition kit was installed, and the fuel tank, pump, lines, and level sending unit were replaced. Service in anticipation of the sale consisted of flushing the power steering fluid, performing an oil change, and replacing the battery and engine mounts.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the factory colors and identification numbers along with a build date of January 14, 1954.

The Pennsylvania title lists the car as an Antique.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
