This 1953 Jaguar XK120 drophead coupe is a non-running project that was acquired by the current owner in 1996 from her father, who is said to have purchased the car new in 1953. The car was last started approximately 12 years ago and is equipped with a replacement 3.8-liter inline-six that is paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in red over black leather. Features include a black soft top, split front bumpers, rear bumperettes, fender-mounted mirrors, and 16″ wire wheels. This XK120 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a Georgia title in the owner’s name.

The body left the factory finished in Pastel Green, and the seller notes that it was refinished in its current shade of red in the 1950s. Features include a black soft top, chrome split front bumper, fender-mounted mirrors, side vent doors, rear bumperettes, and a single exhaust outlet. The seller notes imperfections in the finish, and cracking in the windscreen weather-stripping is visible.

Silver-finished 16″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knockoffs and mounted with 165-400 Michelin radial tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel drums.

The cockpit features black leather upholstery on the seats and door panels. Additional appointments include a burl wood dashboard and door caps, a storage drawer, a lockable glovebox, and lap belts. There is wear on the driver’s seat.

Centrally located Smiths instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with a 5,200-rpm redline, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level in addition to a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, approximately 500 of which were added by the current owner. The inside rim of the tachometer has detached.

The 3.8-liter inline-six was sourced from a Jaguar Mark II and is equipped with dual SU carburetors. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes the car has not been started in over 12 years.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate shows the factory colors, identification numbers, and manufacture date of May 29, 1953.

The data plate affixed to the car lists a chassis number of S677332. The Georgia title lists a VIN of 677332 and carries a notation of “conditional.”

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
