Finished at the Coventry Jaguar factory as a left-hand-drive XK120 Roadster in the classic color combination of Birch Grey over a red Connolly leather interior, the new Jaguar made its way across the Atlantic to the Chicago, Illinois, branch of European car dealer and importer Hoffman Motor Car Co., Inc. In September 1954, Robert A. Koschnick purchased the elegant Roadster off the showroom floor, and brought it down to his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mr. Koschnick, a traveling salesman for the family lumber business, used this XK120 for sales trips throughout the 1950s until he purchased a new Oldsmobile in 1959. From then on, the Jaguar was seldom used until his passing in 1995, at which time it is believed to have covered only 20,000 miles.
The original purchase contract and invoice from Hoffman Motor Car Co., original title and a number of charming black-and-white photographs accompany the sale of this car.
After Mr. Koschnick's death, the XK120 was passed on to his adopted son David Markland. Mr. Markland continued his father's exceptional stewardship and preserved the original XK120 for the next decade, showing the car at local events in the Indianapolis area. In 2007, the XK120 was used as the poster car for the Vintage Thunder event at the Indianapolis Speedway.
Today the XK120 remains in largely original and unrestored condition. The red interior displays a charming patina. The exterior reflects a similar age that is only seen on well-kept, unrestored cars. Most recently, the car received an engine-out service, where various mechanical aspects were attended to.
Lot 2, sold for $101,750.

I recently purchased at the above auction and am delighted to own such an original example. The auction company did not do a justice to all of its originality and was shocked to see the pounds of documents including the orignal bill of sale, cancelled check, 1954 dated envelopes from Hoffman and Coventry, shipping tags, every registration from 1954. I spent about an hour driving thru Scottsdale in 105 degree heat. The XK didn't miss a beat and ran cool. Just amazing.

It is very disappointing when people don't bother to put captions on 'period' photos.
