This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE is a modified example that has remained with its owner for over 40 years. The seller purchased the car as a non-running project while he was on active duty in the US Marines, and worked steadily on the car as time allowed until his retirement in 1993. In the 1990's the original engine was deemed unusable and a replacement 3.4-liter block and head were sourced. A professional cosmetic restoration was started in 2002 that included stripping the body to bare metal and repainting it in the green color seen here, as well as the installation of a new interior. In addition to upgrading the brakes to a dual system with front discs in 2007, the engine was rebuilt and a JT5 5-speed manual transmission was installed by marque specialists XKS Motorsport in 2016. Most recently XKS serviced the rear suspension, and new Vredstein tires were mounted on the Jaguar spoke wheels. This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE is being offered with shop receipts, a detailed logbook kept by the owner, a Jaguar service manual, and a clean California title.

The car wore a maroon finish when initially obtained by the owner in the 1970s. The 2002 cosmetic restoration involved removing the all of the paint, including what the owner believes was a blue finish under the maroon. A new set of Jaguar wire wheels were sourced, and new bumpers were added to both the front and rear. The Vredestein Sprint Classic, 185 HR 16 tires were installed in 2016.

A disc brake setup from an XK150 replaced the orignal front drum brakes, and XKS Motorsport rebuilt the steering box, the related steering components, and the rear shock absorbers. The car includes the canvas top and side curtains seen here and in the gallery below.

After painting the body, the seller had a new interior installed including leather seating and door panels, new carpeting, and seat belts. The speedometer was replaced in the 1970's and the 7200 miles shown are not original.

The 3.4-liter engine was sourced from a Mk1 sedan. The engine work by XKS Motorsport consisted of a complete teardown and rebuild to SE specs and updating the rope rear main seal. The SU carburetors were rebuilt and a new exhaust system was fitted. The original generator has been updated to a Dynalite C45 Alternator and the electrical system is configured with positive ground.

An updated cooling system includes an aluminum radiator and new fan assembly. The engine is said to remain cool in the desert climate throughout summer.

LGB series black license plates would have been issued no later than 1965, and corroborate California residency for the previous 52 years.

Service records from professional shops and a detailed logbook kept by the owner chronicling the work he's done over the years are included. No prior records are available.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
