The seller says: “I purchased the car from a local, long-time second owner and recognized Jag collector, who painstakingly restored it to its pristine condition, which I have preserved for 12 years.” He describes the Jag as a rust-free, matching-numbers car with a 20-year-old repaint. He says the engine has been upgraded to “C” Le Mans specification of Jaguar’s C-Type racers (details below).

Foundational to the brand’s postwar success, the Jaguar XK120 remains one of the most historically significant sports cars.

    POWERTRAIN

According to the seller, this XK120 SE’s 3.4-liter inline-six engine is original to the car and was further upgraded from “SE” to “C” specs with special pistons, competition connecting rods, reworked cylinder head, high-performance cams, and lightened flywheel. He also indicates a new timing chain and stainless-steel dual exhaust. The early C-Type racecars with twin SU carburetors, as this car has, made about 205 horsepower. The seller says the Jag cold-starts “with no fuss and no smoke.” (A video shows the car running.) He reports a “very minor oil leak” around the Moss four-speed manual transmission, that he says is the original unit and is operating well.

    EXTERIOR

The photos support the seller’s description of this XK120 as being a “condition #2” car with no rust and an “immaculate” underside. He indicates a rust-free body and chassis, explaining that he replaced the two small wooden plywood floorboards with new marine plywood, which he then seal-coated with several coats of clear lacquer. He also reports repainting the undercarriage at that same time.

The seller says the Jag’s paint, resprayed about 20 years ago in its factory color, remains in “excellent” condition, with no visible scratches, dents, or paint chips. He adds that the car has been kept in a climate-controlled garage, when not in use, during his 12-year ownership, and was driven in rain just once in that time. The chrome still gleams, per the photos, though it is not known if it had been re-plated.

The top, rear plastic window and tonneau cover, all believed original, are described as “complete but faded.” The car also has what the seller says is a rare aftermarket fiberglass hardtop. The windshield is reported to be in “excellent” condition. The seller says the side curtains have been refurbished and include the original carrying case. The door and trunk seals are said to be leak-free, and all lighting, except the trunk light, is indicated to be operational.

    INTERIOR

The seller describes the interior as refurbished and with new carpeting. The leather upholstery appears to be in excellent condition, with no visible rips or holes, in the photos — just a bit of wrinkling to add some character of a driven car. All original interior trim is affirmed to be intact and in “very good” condition. The heater is affirmed as working. Among the gauges, the odometer is said to not register. A new headliner for the hardtop that matches the interior is indicated.

    CHASSIS

The XK120 rode on a fairly conventional chassis with torsion-bar front suspension and a solid rear axle on leaf springs. The seller reports fully refurbishing the suspension soon after buying the car 12 years ago and affirms that all components remain in “excellent” condition. Likewise, no issues are indicated for the steering, the seller saying, “It’s a great handling car. It goes straight with no steering play.” The 16-inch chrome wire wheels have knock-off hubs and are also described as in “excellent” condition, and the Pirelli tires are reported to be seven years old with 2,200 miles. The car’s drum brakes are said to have no issues and no “mushy feel.”

    DOCUMENTATION

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Minnesota title in his name. Additional documentation includes a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and service records. A revered dual-purpose sports car in its day, this 1954 Jaguar XK120M OTS features period- and brand-correct performance upgrades and is eligible to participate in vintage driving events worldwide, such as the historic Mille Miglia. It seemingly begs to be driven, yet could also win glances, hearts, and trophies at shows.
