Car to be at auction 8/08
www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r
Auction description:
Sale 16250 - A Sale of Jaguar Motor Cars and Related Automobilia, 9 Aug 2008
XK60, Goodwood, Chichester, Sussex
Lot No: 221
The XK Championship-winning
1954 Jaguar XK120 Competition Roadster
Registration no. 582 AXK
Chassis no. S674875
Estimate: £70,000 - 80,000
Arguably the ultimate XK120, the example offered here is certainly one of the most competitive, having won the XK Championship in 2003 and 2004, once lapping the entire field on its way to victory with the vendor at the wheel. The car has been raced only a few tunes since and has always been first to take the checkered flag.
A ‘last nut and bolt’ restoration project undertaken by XK specialists Twyford Motors circa 2000, ‘582 AXK’ was primarily built to XK Class D specification. The car features a 3.8-litre Sigma full race engine – rebuilt and in excellent condition; triple SU carburettors; tubular exhaust system; racing clutch; E-Type straight-cut gearbox; disc brakes and much more besides. This XK120 is eligible for Jaguar Enthusiasts Club; XK Challenge Championship; Powered by Jaguar; and HSCC Road Sports Championship events among others. It has been invited to and has competed in Masters Cloth Cap and the BRDC ’50s Sportscar Series, as well as at Spa Francorchamps and the British Grand Prix support race. Currently taxed, MoT’d and offered with Swansea V5 this would make a fabulous car for Tour-type events, especially if you want to do them quickly!
