Lot #121537

This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was owned by members of the same family from 1958 until 2023 when the selling dealer acquired it. The car is finished in black over red leather upholstery and powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 16″ knock-off wire wheels, dual SU carburetors, a center console, fender-mounted side mirrors, and a split windshield. A coolant flush and oil change were performed in anticipation of the sale. This XK120 SE is now offered with records from 1958 onward, service manuals, literature, a tool kit and knock-off hammer, owner’s manuals, a Production Record Trace certificate, and a clean Massachusett title.

The body was finished from the factory in black and paint blending is noted on the upper sections of the doors and on the left front nose. Equipment includes a black canvas top, front and rear bumperettes, fender-mounted side mirrors, a split windshield, and dual exhaust outlets. The windshield rubber is cracking, a paint chip is noted on left front fender, crack and crazing is present on the front bodywork, and additional blemishes are shown up close in the gallery below. The canvas top is worn, and side windows are included in the sale.

Painted 16″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Coker Classic tires, and a spare is stored in the trunk. Braking is through drums at all four corners.

The cabin houses red leather seats along with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a passenger-side grab handle, lap seatbelts, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, and map pockets in both doors. A carburetor primer switch has been installed under the dashboard. Wear is present throughout the cabin.

A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, approximately 50 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 3.4-liter inline-six was factory-equipped with the Special Equipment package, which included twin SU carburetors, higher-lift camshafts, and dual exhaust pipes for a factory-rated output of 180 horsepower. A coolant flush and oil change were performed in anticipation of the sale.

The engine block stamping is shown above which matches the number on the chassis plate below.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Additional underside photos are presented in the gallery below.

Past bills of sale, service records, vintage photographs, a tool kit, a knock-off hammer, and spare parts are included in the sale.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and powertrain numbers

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
