It is with a nod to its racing heritage that this example has been prepared for sale today. Converted from left to righthand drive by the vendor, the body was then stripped to bare metal and, finding that it was in good order throughout, a meticulous two-pack painting process was then undertaken in classic Jaguar silver. At the same time, to aid comfort, both footwells have been extended and courtesy lights fitted to the underside of the doors. The standard bench seats were exchanged for more sporting bucket seats and finished in red leather (original bench items available by separate negotiation). During the re-build, all joints have been polybushed and all nuts, bolts, washers, radiator and bonnet stays are now made of marine-grade stainless steel with Dax adjustable shock-absorbers at each corner.
The engine has been stripped down and rebuilt by the best in the business, Guy Broad, complete with new conrods, shells and pistons, breathing is through 2” S.U. (autochoke) carburettors with power delivery through a five speed gearbox (original four-speed unit available by separate negotiation). A single Le Mans-style fuel filler cap has be added to the rear deck and, hinting at a previous life on the grid, this model comes with actual factory bonnet louvres. This is confirmed by the fact that the front pair are facing forward to aid cooling. Additionally, like the world-famous ‘NUB 120’ car driven by Jaguar founder, Sir William Lyons’ daughter, Pat Appleyard, twin spotlights can be found at the front. An extremely well-built and well-considered fast road example of Jaguar’s classic XK120.
