Sellers description:
This car was restored with the next 55 years of its life in mind. Starting with an authentic special equipment, numbers matching car purchased from a dealer in Reno, Nevada; the car was completely stripped down and restored. The body and frame were acid bath-dipped to remove all paint and rust. Minor rust was found in the sills and boot area, an old accident repair was found in the front, right wheel well. Over 500 hours of body and paint work have brought the car back to a factory-fresh condition. Wherever possible the original nuts and bolts, a mixture of SAE and British Standard/Whitworth, were stripped and re-blackened per original plating style of the 1950’s. Over $3,000 dollars was spent just on re-chroming original items. The interior kit is from BAS, Ltd, considered the best supplier of XK120 interior kits and has authentic Wilton wool carpets and Connolly leather. A complete, authentic style wiring loom kit was installed.
The original engine, gearbox and differential were completely rebuilt. The cylinders were bored out to 0.06” over and the crank turned down 0.03”. New bearing were used everywhere, including the cam shafts. New valve tappets were also installed. A hydraulic chain tensioner was added to increase engine life and a full seal was added to the rear crankshaft to eliminate the typical oil leakage seen when using the standard, two piece “rope” seals. A Falcon stainless steel exhaust with sport silencers was used giving the car a wonderful sound.
The is an extremely original car and the proper jack, complete tool kit and air pump are included. The Lucas electronics all have the correct build dates to support the December, 1953 car manufacturing date. This includes the starter (Oct-53), turn signal relay (Jul-53), dynamo (Nov-53), wiper motor (Nov-53), deadlight dipper switch (Nov-53), regulator (Dec-53) and starter solenoid (Nov-53).
The four wire wheels on the car are new from Dayton, the spare is the original Dunlup which was stripped, trued and painted body color to match the rest. The front suspension was rebuilt with Koni shocks and using poly bushes throughout which should last the next 50 years. Uprated torsion bars were installed up front and new rear leaf springs, with the proper leather gaiters, were installed in the rear. The car drives wonderfully and the heavy duty torsion bars provide great tracking in turns. All 6 wheel brake cylinders have been lined in brass to provide a long life of service. New drums and brake shoes were added.
A custom dark blue tonneau cover and convertible top, with matching side curtains were provided by BAS and compliment the light blue exterior and dark red interior. A custom walnut burl center dash was added along with a Moto-Lita walnut steering wheel. The smaller steering wheel makes the car much, much easier to drive if you're over 5' 10".
