    Description (revised)

    Item Specifics - Item Condition
    Condition: Used

1953 Jaguar XK120 OTS LHD Special Equipment. Serial no. S674320. Matching numbers. One of 688 OTS LHD SE 120’s built in 1953.

Of the nine XK models offered between 1949 and 1960 the XK 120 Open Two Seat version is often considered the most desirable with the SE or Special Equipment being second only to the alloy body cars in collectability. SE cars had high compression heads, high lift cams, lightened flywheels, wire wheels and high rate springs and other modifications that made them ideal competition purposes. Referred to in the US as the 120M these cars that put Jaguar at the front of Sports Car racing in the early Fifties.

Although I have no specific racing history for this car, it has surly seen plenty of track time witnessed by the bumps and bruises (maybe this was Skippy Welcher’s car!). When its racing days were over it was parked and used for parts, being stored outdoors many years. The elements have taken their toll, having rusted the body and frame severely requiring extensive repairs or replacement. The engine in this car is numbers matching, a testament to the durability of the XK engine. Placing a large wrench on the crankshaft pulley would not turn the engine, however when drained, the crankcase contained oil, not water. The front suspension is nearly complete, missing only one brake drum and splined hub. I have fitted Big Healy(?) Hubs and wire wheels to transport the car and are included in the sale. No modifications were required, as the wheel bearing size appear to be the same. In the rear, the left leaf spring and both axle/hub assemblies are missing. I have fitted modern Ford axles to transport, are included, again no modifications were required. When the axles where removed the differential cover carelessly was not replaced and the gears show the effect of being in the weather for many years. The transmission is still attached and appears to be original, though I did not check numbers, with the top cover and shift lever area showing some damage.

Please be aware this car needs a complete restoration, with many parts missing or beyond repair, only parts shown being included. Not shown are one front brake drum with splinned hub and one wire wheel with knock-off.

I do not have a title to the car but will provide a bill of sale to help with the acquisition of the proper paper work.

Pick-up or shipping is your responsibility; I will help push the car onto a trailer or transporter.

This car will be sold! This is a no reserve auction and I will not end it early.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
