This 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster was originally distributed by Hoffman Motors of New York City and reportedly later owned by the founder of XKs Unlimited, who carried out a refurbishment. Purchased by the current owner in 2011, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Factory Special Equipment upgrades include higher-lift camshafts, wire wheels, and a dual exhaust system. This XK120 is offered in Palm Desert, California by the selling dealer on consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a top and side curtains, a tool kit, and a clean Ohio title.
The body was reportedly removed from the frame during the refurbishment and was painted red in lieu of its original Dove Gray. Chrome 16” wire wheels wear two-eared knock-off hubs and General Jet-Air whitewall tires. Drum brakes are equipped all around, and the drums have been painted in body color. SE models came with a stiffer suspension. A new tan softtop is included along with side curtains, and these components are shown uninstalled.
The cabin is trimmed in Biscuit leather with red piping, and lap belts have been added. The black 4-spoke steering wheel features a telescoping column and sits ahead of a leather-trimmed dashboard.
The 5-digit odometer shows 69k miles, approximately 1,200 of which have been added by the current owner during eight years of ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter DOHC XK inline-six features an aluminum cylinder head, hemispherical combustion chambers, and dual SU carburetors. Higher-lift camshafts helped the SE version of the engine produce 180 horsepower when new. An electric fuel pump has been added. Maintenance in November 2018 included an oil change.
Number W7654-8 is shown stamped on the engine block and matches the number listed on the data tag and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
The JHT certificate also notes that the car was dispatched from the factory on March 2, 1953 finished in Dove Grey with a Biscuit and Red interior.
Included with the sale and also shown in the gallery are a service manual, a painting of the car, luggage, a tennis racket, and a tool kit.
