Auction description:

Seller: johnnypels

Location: Spring, Texas 77379

Chassis: S672892

Partially-Disassembled Project

Replacement Inline-Six

4-Speed Manual Transmission

Knock-Off Wire Wheels

Spare Parts

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #68402

This 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was disassembled for refurbishment some time during previous ownership and was acquired by the seller in 2008. A partially-assembled replacement inline-six accompanies the vehicle, along with a removed four-speed manual transmission, soft top and frame, interior components, and various trim pieces. This XK120 project is being offered at no reserve in Spring, Texas with a bill of sale.

The car has been partially stripped and shows signs of previous metalwork on the driver-side rear quarter panel, along with areas of body filler on the nose and rear of the vehicle. Various scratches and other blemishes are visible in the gallery below, and the lights, windshield frame, bumpers, and other trim have been removed. A soft top and frame will accompany the vehicle, as will uninstalled side windows and headlights.

Painted knock-off wire wheels wear aged Goodyear and Atlas tires with sidewall damage. A spare is included in the sale.

The interior has been largely stripped, though the wood floors and a pair of seats with deteriorating black vinyl upholstery remain. An AM radio will accompany the vehicle, along with uninstalled red carpets and an instrument cluster with a Smiths 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. Total mileage is unknown.

A partially-assembled replacement inline-six is included in the sale, as is a four-speed manual transmission, carburetor components, and additional parts. A photo in the gallery displays the engine block stamping.

Areas of corrosion and rust-through are visible on the underside

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
