Car now offered at:

www.premiumclassiccars.com/carlistings/1953-jaguar-xk-120-alu-body-special/

Sellers description:

JAGUAR - 1953 XK 120 Aluminium Special

The Jaguar XK 120 LT2 , also known as the 'Silverstone,' was the factory works lightweight version of the XK 120 , originally constructed with a one piece magnesium body. It is believed that just three cars were built and planned for use in the 1951 Le Mans race should the Works C types fail to be read. As it happens the C types were ready and went on to win the race.

This car offered for sale is the subject of an exhaustive and painstaking restoration to full Jaguar XK 120 lightweight specification and is completely faithful to the three lightweight aluminium bodied cars that were built by the works engineers for private teams' entry in Le Mans, 1951.

As the full restoration was completed the car was fitted with period correct Brooklands aero screens and quick fuel filler to match the works Le Mans team cars.

Chassis number S 667062 was built in 1953 as an XK 120 SE Drop Head coupe, in RHD, in Jaguar British Racing Green. Due to the poor state of the body of this car, the decision to build an all aluminium body to exact LT2 specification was taken thus creating a uniquely restored XK 120. Using an original period, wooden buck, the body was meticulously crafted to exact standards by Craig Chapman of CC Coachworks. In parallel a bare-metal chassis restoration was completed with rear adjustable telescopic suspension fitted and front suspension fully stripped and poly-bushed. Famed 'Coopercraft front disc brakes were added and the hydraulic electric power steering conversion was done, with competition grade fresh copper fuel and brake lines run throughout the car.

Engine cooling was totally upgraded to full Jaguar Motorsport specification with an aluminium large core radiator, Le Mans header tank and Kenlowe fan fitted with manual override.

The engine was rebuilt to fast-road specification, lightened and balanced with polished ports. A free flow exhaust is fitted ensuring a blistering pace and an exhaust note to die for! An upgraded water pump ,oil pump and high torque starter were added. Fuel flow is regulated by a high-flow competition pump.

This fabulous restoration has included a full re-trim with correct pattern period bucket seats being lovingly remade!

The car is a standard XK120 apart from the following-

- The car is negative earth.

- Battery cut off switch is fitted to the left foot well.

- Electric starter carburetor has a manual over rider switch.

- Electric radiator switch is fitted on main dashboard.

- Hyrdaulic/ electric power steering.

- Alternator/ electronic ignition/ electronic fuel pump/ high torque starter motor.

- Front disc brake conversion with aluminium calipers.

- Rear telescopic shock absorber conversion.

- Kenlowe 16 inch fan fitted with manual over rider switch.

- Car is wired spotlights, which are in spares package as follows,

Front Brake drums and hubs complete

Steering column and box plus complete linkages

Dynamo / starter motor

Four painted 16 inch wire wheels with tyres

Amp meter

Boxes of various small parts

Workshop Manual

Spares Manual

Touch up paint.

This restoration would exceed £100,000 if undertaken today and uniquely has recreated possibly the ultimate driving XK120 from the fabulous bygone era of early post-war Jaguar engine cars.

The net result is a truly stunning XK 120 that would sit equally at home on the grid for Le Mans Classic or blasting through a French countryside!

This is a fabulous driver's car with so much visible presence!

Very importantly, the car's history file is amongst the very best that I have seen. It includes early tax discs, MOTs dating back 30 years and a clear audit trail with ALL its' restoration costs (exceeding £75,000!)

The car is offered for sale with underside 'Waxoyl' treatment and 100% prepared for a new life, quite likely to win a concours competition!

This car is capable of giving you a rather large grin as the needle edges to 4,500 RPM and the howl of the exhaust builds to a wonderful crescendo! With some properly sorted brakes (utilising modern motorsport linings) this car is extremely usable and offers fantastic rewards to both the driver and passenger. With XK 120s steadily rising in value and in a market set to increasingly favour special-bodied aluminium, lightweight classic and collector cars, this is sure to be a super buy.

Being aluminium bodied, from a correct period XK 120 buck, in reality costs would be far in excess of the price asked for the car, shrewd buyers will realise this is possibly an absolute steal!

The car will be offered for sale with both painted Jaguar BRG period competition wire wheels and chrome re-plated. The car will be on the rolling road prior to delivery ensuring optimum turn key performance from day one.

Approximately 240 lightweight XK 120's were built with aluminium bodies intended for competition use!

This car is very very fast due to its combination of light weight aluminium body & tuned engine. It sits on chrome wire wheels with knock off spinners. Black leather bucket seats take care of the creature conforts whilst a Moto Lita Steering wheel handles directional changes. Not for the faint of heart this is a car very much at home on the track or competing in historic events.

The car comes with a thick history folder containing the usual prethora of bills from assorted marqe specialists & attesting to the serious money spent to create this road rocket.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
