This 1955 Jaguar XK140 M is a drophead coupe that was refurbished before the current owner’s acquisition in 1991. Service in 2023 included rebuilding the 3.4-liter inline-six and overhauling the dual SU carburetors along with the front suspension, steering rack, and Smiths instrumentation. A PerTronix electronic ignition conversion kit and an aluminum radiator were also installed, the four-speed manual transmission was resealed, and the overdrive solenoid was replaced. The car is finished in green over tan and equipped with a black soft top, driving lights, chrome 16” wire wheels, and burl wood interior trim. This XK140 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner in Massachusetts with tools and a clean Texas title listing it as a 1956 model.

This example was repaired and repainted in green under prior ownership. Exterior details include a black soft top, driving lights, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Cracked paint on the right fender is visible up close.

Chrome 16” knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Goodyear Eagle LS tires, and a full-size spare is stored below the trunk floor. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums. The front suspension was overhauled and the steering rack was rebuilt in 2021.

The cabin is trimmed in tan, and burl wood veneer trim adorns the dashboard, doors, and side window frames. Lap seatbelts are provided for front occupants.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges. The tachometer, ammeter, and fuel level gauge were rebuilt in 2023. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles, though the total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six and twin SU carburetors were rebuilt in 2022. The valve cover was also repaired and polished. A PerTronix electronic ignition conversion kit, a gear-reduction starter, and an aluminum radiator were installed, and the fuel sending unit and exhaust manifolds were replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with electrically actuated overdrive. The transmission was resealed and the clutch release bearing and overdrive solenoid were replaced in 2022.

A tool roll will accompany the car along with a Thor mallet.

The car is titled in Texas by its engine number.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
