    Ebay item 6/3/22

    www.ebay.com/itm/203976329496

Car has a buy it now price of $55,600 for 29 days, seller strokinf250, 38k miles, same location.

    Seller's description:

1956 Jaguar XK140 Drop Head Coupe, Cream Exterior, Green Interior, Overdrive. Last driven in 1984, was stored in a garage and had some crud spilled on it causing paint peel and surface rust. Plenty of paint peeling, but solid. Rolls just fine, have NOT checked to see if the engine is free, I'll update once I have time to check it. The interior is intact, just dry. Wood laminate shows some separation but is all repairable. Appears to be pretty much complete. The only things I KNOW are missing is the heater core and one of the little buttons in the middle of a fog lamp. It will winch onto a trailer with no problem, but steering is a bit wonky as the right side steering rack mount needs replaced (should replace both anyway).

Car acquired via eBay re-listing, successfully collected and moved to Southern California for sympathetic restoration. She is an excellent, numbers-matching, “sleeping beauty”, now registered in California and will hopefully be operational in 2023. Thanks, Tom, you were a good steward of the car. Much like my former XK140MC FHC, S815036DN, which is in this database and last known in Germany, A817901DN has moved on reflecting her owners’ properly placed priorities. I think, and hope, she has found her permanent home for at least my duration and that I’m able to successfully pass her on to the next generation of enthusiasts.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
