This 1956 Jaguar XK140 fixed-head coupe underwent a refurbishment under previous ownership that involved installation of a replacement 3.4-liter inline-six as well as a retrofitted four-speed manual unit in place of the factory automatic unit. Finished in white over red leather, the car rides on 16″ wire wheels and features Lucas driving lights as well as a luggage rack. Inside, adjustable bucket seats are accompanied by wood trim, a push-button AM/FM radio, and Smiths instrumentation. This XK140 was acquired by the current owner in 2015 and is now offered by the seller on their behalf with an owner’s booklet, service manuals, and a Colorado title in the owner’s name listing the car as a 1957 model.
The car is finished in white and was repainted under previous ownership. The headlamps wear protective guards and are joined by Lucas driving lights. Additional details include a split windshield, front vent windows, a luggage rack, and bumpers with overriders.
The 16″ wire wheels are secured via two-ear knock-offs and mounted with older Concorde tires that the seller tells us require replacement. Braking is handled by drums at each corner.
The adjustable seats are trimmed in red leather and paired with lap belts. Wood trim accents the dash along with the window surrounds and doors, while red carpets line the floors. Further interior appointments include a cabin heater, a defroster, wind-up side windows, and door storage pockets.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel features drilled spokes and is accompanied by a wood shift knob. Smiths instrumentation consists of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 140-mph speedometer flanking an ammeter and gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership.
The 3.4-liter inline-six was installed under previous ownership. It is equipped with dual SU carburetors.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was installed in place of the factory BorgWarner three-speed automatic unit.
The data plate above shows chassis number A815750BW, which is consistent with a left-hand-drive XK140 fixed head coupe built in 1956. The car is titled as a 1957 model using the engine number G83398 indicated on the plate.
