Lot #143845

This 1956 Jaguar XK140 Roadster was acquired as a disassembled project by the current owner, and a refurbishment was initiated by the selling dealer’s shop in 2015. Work included stripping and repairing the bodywork, powder coating the chassis, and overhauling the 3.4L inline-six along with the suspension, steering, and braking systems. Additional components accompanying the vehicle include removed body panels, bumpers, trim pieces, side curtains, seat frames, a speedometer, and various wiring components. This XK140 project is offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with spare parts, a Jaguar Production Record Trace certificate, refurbishment records and photos, and a California title.

The car left the factory finished in Pastel Blue and was removed from the frame and disassembled during the work in 2015. The chassis was powder coated at that time, and the body was coated in gray primer following repairs on the front left and right fenders, windshield cowl, and rear panel. Photos of the included body panels are provided in the gallery, along with images showing the spare side curtains, bumpers, and trim pieces.

Replacement 16″ chrome wire wheels wear two-eared knockoffs and were mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires in 2015. The brake drums were turned and the wheel cylinders, brake master cylinder, shoes, and hoses were replaced at that time. Additional work included overhauling the suspension and replacing the shocks, tie rod assemblies, rack and pinion assembly, wheel bearings, and hub seals.

The interior has been stripped and support braces are fitted in place. Seat frames, a speedometer, and trim pieces accompany the vehicle.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features twin SU carburetors and electronic ignition, and it was rebuilt by the selling dealer’s shop in 2015. The block was hot-tanked and Magnaflux-tested, the cylinders re-sleeved, and the crankshaft ground and modified for a rear main seal conversion. A replacement cylinder head was installed at that time, and additional work included re-grinding the camshafts, rebuilding the generator and crankshaft damper, installing an aluminum flywheel, and replacing the clutch and fuel tank. The cylinder head has been restamped.

The four-speed manual transmission was overhauled and resealed during the work in the mid-2010s.

Documents of various stages of the work along with records totaling over $61,000 are included.

The Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors and identification numbers and indicates a completion date of December 2, 1955.

There is currently a lien on the car, and the current owner’s lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to the new owner.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
