Car to be at auction 12/15 www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2015-11-28/car/ref-5-1958-jaguar-xk150s-road ... Auction description: Lot 279 - 1958 Jaguar XK150S Roadster (3.4 litre) Registration 192 UYK Chassis Number S 830783 DN Engine Number VS 1191-9 Odometer reading 1,388 miles Estimate £110,000 - £130,000 We are delighted to offer this genuine Jaguar XK150S open two seater, a well-appointed sports touring car which, in its day, boasted a capability of 137mph with a 0-60mph time of 7.8 seconds. These accomplished motor cars were also able to cover long distances with alacrity; and still do today even given our modern traffic conditions. According to the Jaguar Heritage Production Record Trace Certificate, 192 UYK was manufactured on 25th June 1958 and dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York on 14th July, 1958. (Interestingly, a common error in researching the 'S' model, is to presume that an 'S' prefix to the chassis number would denote this as being an 'SE' model, however; the Jaguar Heritage Trust have confirmed that the 'S' was dispatched in batches, either with 'T' prefix or an 'S' prefix). The build specification states that this was a lefthand drive, open two seater XK 150S with a manual/overdrive transmission, coachwork finished in British Racing Green, a tan interior and a black hood. Today, this XK150S remains with its original specifications and colours. Imported from Beverly Hills into the UK on 6th November, 2014, the XK had undergone restoration works in the USA to a high standard and has only covered approximately 1,100 miles since. Further works have been carried out since being in the UK and include a full engine rebuild by the well-respected Jaguar specialists 'Jaguar Workshop' with supporting bills totalling in the region of £7,000. We are informed that the engine is now run-in having completed 700 miles since and also benefits from a post run-in service. On inspection, the coachwork looks resplendent in British Racing Green whilst displaying excellent panel gaps; these being difficult to achieve with the type of construction Jaguar employed with the XK models. Please note, the chassis and body have been checked and confirmed as a matching numbers example. The interior boasts excellent tan hide seats with lap belts and is certainly a welcoming office for driver and passenger alike. Being an 'S' model, the car retains its disc brakes on all four wheels as well as a set of chrome wire wheels and recent new tyres (including the spare wheel). The tools, including the jack, are situated in the boot and the jacking points are accessible from the interior as per the original specification. We are informed that the engine block is not the original but a similar period unit has been used as a replacement, however the JDHT have confirmed that the cylinder head marked VS 1191-8 is the original unit for this motor car. In addition a non-standard Mota-Lita steering wheel is fitted. The hood is in excellent order and may be erected and stowed without undue difficulty. On a recent test, the Jaguar drove well with the instruments displaying pressures and temperatures as they should. The engine pulled well with the gears engaging easily as well as the welcome overdrive for comfortable high speed cruising; overall a very pleasant and capable experience according to our tester. We have been told that this UK registered (import duties paid) XK150S will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. To find an XK150 in this condition, with such finish, panel gaps and performance is difficult at the best of times. To find a genuine 'S' model such as this, even rarer.

The heritage certificate confirms the original engine number and BRG colour.

The chassis number and heritage certificate confirm that this is a genuine 3.4 250hp 'S' model.

This is one of the last cars with the 'S' prefix as the prefix was changed by the factory to 'T' on 20 August 1958.

This car's heritage certificate and chassis 'S' prefix confirm that it left the factory as an official 3.4-litre 'S' model with the 250bhp upgrades, including triple SU carburettors, that it retains (CHASSIS NUMBER S830783 DN, ENGINE NUMBER VS 1191-9. It was shipped to New York and remained in the US until 2015, when it was imported into Europe in 2015. It has been with the seller since arriving in France in 2016.

In 2016 the car underwent a complete mechanical overhaul including full engine rebuild, rebuilding rear axle, and rebuilding front and rear suspension. This is documented in the history file and photographs.

The car retains its original 3.4 engine with straight port cylinder head, apart from the engine block which was replaced due to excessive wear with a correct period 3.8 litre engine block

The XK150 is a popular car for long road trips, events and classic car rallies, and upgrades to improve reliability and driveability are commonplace. The car has been similarly upgraded, now sporting a 5-speed Getrag gearbox and under-hood improvements to the cooling and ignition systems. The brakes have also been upgraded with Coopercraft discs discs and calipers. Lighting has been upgraded to LED.

The Condition

Restored to a high standard to original factory specification in British Racing Green (BRG).

Paintwork is in very good condition due to limited use

The factory 'S' badges are still present on the bodywork

No visible corrosion on the panels, which also have a good fit and finish

The chrome is in good condition with no visible deterioration

16-inch chrome wheels fitted with classic Blockley tyres

The underside of the car is also well maintained with a neat finish and good corrosion protection

Removable black OTS factory roof in good order

Tan leather interior similar to original with new tilting bucket seats

Original seats can be included with the car if required

Factory standard interior

Very well maintained interior accessories, including dashboard top roller and grey leather console finish

The beauty of the original XK120 meant that, by the time the XK150 arrived nearly a decade later, little needed changing. These cars simply became more luxurious and imposing, as their increased power and prestige required.

A full restoration in 2016 brought this car back to the magnificent condition it now displays. It is finished in factory-standard British Racing Green, with a complementary tan interior similar to the specification with which it left the factories in 1958.

Inside and out, she is in very good condition. The quality of the restoration work and the sparing use made of this vehicle are clearly visible.

The Mechanics

Jaguar XK 3.4-litre 'S' specification in-line six-cylinder engine producing a claimed 250 bhp

SU triple carburettor to factory specification

Getrag 5-speed gearbox

Coopercraft disc brakes

123 electronic ignition

Engine rebuilt in 2016

Alternator replaced in 2016 (Dynamo)

Suspension and shock absorbers overhauled

This car left the factory with a 3.4-litre 'S' specification engine producing 250bhp running on triple carburettors. The engine was rebuilt in 2016 and the car has covered few miles since then.

In line with many XK150s, it has been significantly upgraded for high-speed, long-distance travel. These include a 5-speed Getrag gearbox, Coopercraft disc brakes and a revised ignition system. These changes are standard improvements to enhance reliability and driveability.

The car has been used sparingly since the work was completed and arrives on the market with no reported problems. We are told that it drives exceptionally well.
