1956 XK 140 DHC #818258 Engine G6256-8 Gearbox JL33520 Body P4609 History: According to the Heritage Certificate the car was sold originally January 24, 1956 to a Ray J. Kemble in Buffalo, New York. I bought the car from a Linda Barker who was the daughter of a Frances Ehret of the Buffalo New York area. She said he was the original owner. Mr. Ehret died early in 1991. Ms. Barker, somewhat after this, brought the car to Denver and put it in storage. She contacted a dealer friend of mine who deals in new cars about selling it. He inspected it while I was on the phone with him. Not being exactly clear as to what he was looking at it sounded from his description like a car that had no rust and was a good candidate for restoration so I bought the car. I knew someone who was looking for such a car in Chicago and called him and sold the car to him all sight unseen. When he received the car he called and told me what a special original car it was. I was going to Chicago to deliver an XK 120 so I asked him to hold it for me until I could see it. I loved the car when I saw it and bought it back from him, of course at a higher price that I sold it to him for! It came with the full compliment of tools and roll, and original owners manual. The car was all original. Mechanically the car seems to have been well maintained. There was no looseness in front ball joints or tie rod ends, the brakes worked and it still ran well with original spark plug wires and hoses. Since then the fuel system has been flushed, brake system rebuilt, tie rod ends, ball joints, rack mounts all replaced, stainless exhaust installed, new u joints, hoses, plug wires, new engine mounts, original radiator re-cored with extra row of cooling fins, new Konis in front, painted original color on car that had original paint with no rust or accident damage, removed the spats and fitted brass fillers in indentations(still have original spats), replaced original top(still have original), bought new hood envelope(kept original), bumpers rechromed, also removed head to replace head gasket and had head gone over by machine shop, the engine was in excellent condition. The car had just over 47,000 miles on it when I got it, now shows 61,000. I bought the car just over five years ago and have used it. It has been on three Red Rock Rallies, the National JCNA meet in Arizona in 2003, a rally to Yellowstone and Glacier with friends, The Going to the Sun Rally, and several local runs. It has always been a reliable car, and has always been driven to all events. On the Going to the Sun Rally in the fall of 2007, I drove the car more than 2,600 miles, used only four quarts of oil, had absolutley no troubles, and drove fast. The car is serviced and ready to go. Everything works and it runs very well. CAR IN THE USA.

In 1991, the daughter of its longtime owner placed the Jaguar in storage, where it remained until 2002, when it was sold and sympathetically restored. Acquired by the current owner in 2010, the XK140 was shipped to Zürich, where it essentially received a new restoration. Receipts totaling approximately $130,000 document the new top, mechanical overhaul, and a show-level refinish in the handsome Battleship Gray it wears today. Nearly $30,000 was spent on the interior alone, a remarkable number considering the Jaguar retains its original black leather upholstery. Copious documentation of the meticulous work attests to the particular affection the consignor has for this XK140. The Drophead retains its original matching-numbers engine (per its JDHT Certificate), beautifully patinated black leather interior, burled wooden dash, painted steel wheels, and rear wheel spats.

Not being entirely clear on what he saw, his description made it sound like a car with no rust and a good candidate for restoration, so he bought it.
