This car was consigned to the auction in 1994 from the Jaguar collection of the ICS History of Jaguar motor museum.
It had been acquired for the museum in 1981 from owner Anthony Broom he owning the car from 1967. There is a fine photo of the car in the museum's official guide(p.24)
Originally the car was a L.H.D export model returning to the U.K after about six months when it was converted by the factory to R.H.D as is apparent in a photo in the auction catalogue.
An extensive restoration was carried out after the museum acquired the car and it was resprayed maroon and trimmed in grey leather. Subsequently it won many concours awards in the 1980s.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
