Auction description:
Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook
1 August 2009
Lot 243
1956 Jaguar XK 140MC Roadster
To be auctioned on Saturday, August 1, 2009
High Bid of $90,000
Chassis no. 811364
The 1956 Jaguar XK140 presented here is equipped with the "MC" option. The current owner purchased it in April 1976 from "Jeopardy" host and television personality Alex Trebek, who had owned and enjoyed the car for many years, accumulating approximately 68,000 miles during his ownership.
In 1991, with the Jaguar now showing approximately 73,000 miles, it was completely disassembled and subjected to a photo-documented restoration with the outstanding results displayed here. While Golden West Coach of Whittier, California performed the body and paintwork, the marque experts at XKs Unlimited of San Luis Obispo handled the engine, instruments and upholstery. The white exterior finish is perfectly complemented by burgundy Connolly leather upholstery, red wool carpeting, gleaming brightwork, chrome plated wire wheels and wide whitewall tires. The car also has a black canvas top, the original and rarely kept removable side curtains, a tonneau cover, stainless steel dual exhaust system, battery tender and a red fitted cover.
Since its introduction, the Jaguar XK 140 has been, and continues to be, a spirited and highly desirable sports car. Less than 100 miles have been covered since restoration and with its high performance, careful ownership and celebrity provenance, this show quality, well-sorted example is even more desirable today.
