Sellers description:
XK 140 DHC RHD 1955
An original RHD 140 DHC very attractively finished in Pearl Grey with blue interior and blue hood. It has just the spec you want - a manual + overdrive gearbox with disc front brakes and newish chrome wire wheels with radial tyres. We sold this car in 2003 to its last owner who has looked after it really well. It is a very smart car which drives as a 140 should. Just in. POA

Seller's description:

1955 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe

A UK supplied example in one of the best colour combinations

Completed in June 1955, chassis 807205 was originally finished in Pearl Grey over Blue trim, the colours it’s finished in today. Supplied through Henlys Ltd, Manchester, it was issued with the Manchester area registration number RGR 500.

By the late 1970s it was owned by John Noble, based at RAF Binbrook. A full restoration was completed for the following owner, May Dunston, in the late 1980s, with photographs of the proceedings. At this point it was converted to wire wheels and an overdrive was fitted. The engine, whilst not original, is from an XK140 from December 1955. The most recent owner bought the XK – for the first time – in 1996, selling her in 2004. He regretted it and when he discovered it was for sale via XK Guru Jeremy Wade in 2013, he bought it back!

In his custodianship he drove it extensively throughout Europe, as well as tours of Australia including Adelaide and Tasmania. Upgrades include electronic ignition, Coopercraft disc brakes on the front, front spotlights, battery charging point, high torque starter, and expansion tank.

The history file includes a considerable quantity of servicing and maintenance invoices almost annually since 2006, including a gearbox & overdrive rebuild around 5,000 miles ago. Mostly looked after for him by Brian Stevens, other specialists in the invoice file include Racing Green Cars, Twyford Moors, David Ayre and Stewart Walker Ltd.

This is what we call a great ‘club members’ car; well loved, well used, and in a really super touring specification. Not immaculate, but very tidy indeed, and in delicious period colours. Very good value for a Home Market car in this condition, it’s just been serviced by Guy Broad, so it’s ready for whatever the next custodian throws at it. We think the XK140 Drop Head Coupe is the best allrounder of the XK range.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
