This charming original right-hand drive Jaguar XK140 Fixedhead Coupe was sold new to a Mr Michael Mason of Southport by supplying dealer R. Bamber Ltd in 1955, with the registration RWM 900. We are informed by the vendor that this number plate is in fact still available with the DVLA. At some point in this car's history it was exported to Italy and was registered in Modena. An original Italian logbook confirms that it was sold in 1989 to the world famous art collection of Collezione Koelliker. There are a number of Italian documents in the history file that documents its time over there.

The car was repatriated back to the UK in early 2013 and was bought by the current owner, a respected classic car restorer in his own right. This highly original car was stripped of all older rust proofing from the chassis and body and some remedial works were carried out. The car was then re-waxoiled and rustproofed. Fitted with new suspension bushes, shock absorbers, brake shoes, wheel cylinders and fully serviced with all fluids changed, this car is ready for the open road and would make an ideal fast-road vehicle for classic touring or rally events.

Finished in Old English White with cream leather interior, this XK140 retains a superb level of authenticity and originality. In addition, as an original home-market delivered car, it is one of only 842 examples manufactured! With XK prices climbing fast, it would seem that 150 and 140 fixedheads offer the very best value for money in today's market.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
