Car to be at auction 6/14
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php
Auction description:
Lot 349A - 1955 Jaguar XK140 Fixedhead Coupe
Estimate: £37,000 - £40,000
Registration Number: VLG 777
Chassis Number: 804144DN
This highly accomplished XK140 was first registered on the 17th May 1955 and sold via Henlys of London. Sitting on wire wheel shod with Blockley tyres all round, this matching numbers example was restored some years ago by specialists Oldham and Crowther and finished in red with a matching red hide interior boasting new carpets. In long term ownership and having little use in the last ten years, the car has had the rear brakes rebuilt with new rear hubs, hydraulics and new shoes, and a new aluminium fuel tank by Aubrey Finberg of Classic Autos in Kingslangley.
Contained in the history file is a Heritage certificate confirming its matching number status, photographs of the rebuild, a V5 document, handbook, assorted bills and old MoT certificates. Perhaps the most usable of the XK models, this desirable example is fitted with overdrive enabling high speed cruising and making it a viable long distance tourer. The Jaguar legend, 'pace, grace and space' is entirely appropriate in this instance.

1955 Jaguar XK140 Fixed Head Coupe
Lot 68 (Imperial War Museum Duxford, 14th October 2020)
Estimate £52,000 - £56,000
Lot details
Registration No: VLG777
Chassis No: 804144DN
MOT: Exempt
Just 1 of 843 right-hand drive examples made
Matching chassis plus engine numbers and fitted with an electric fan
Subject to an oil/filter change, new plugs and cylinder head work in 2018
Offered with a colllection of old MOT's, previous restoration photographs and reproduction handbook
‘VLG 777’ is finished in a deep shade of Blue, rides on colour-matched wire wheels and is trimmed in contrasting Red hide. A matching numbers car first registered in May 1955, it is one of only 843 such examples to have been equipped with righthand drive, so a relatively rare car. The subject to a bodywork restoration and repaint in c.2015, this venerable cat was treated to cylinder head work, new plugs and an oil/filter change in 2018. It has a pleasing patina and is currently considered by the vendor to have ‘good’ Coupe bodywork, paintwork, upholstery, straight-six engine and four-speed manual transmission. He is now offering the Jaguar complete with desirable electric fan, photos of the restoration, reproduction handbook, maintenance manual, book on XK Jaguars, and a collection of invoices and old MOT certificates.
