I foolishly sold this car and an extra W series XK-120 engine to a pair of brothers from Chicagoland. They showed the car with good success but I have absolutely no idea whether they still have the car. It was an extremely nice original with 40K miles on the odometer when I sold it. Leather was original and grey in color. The only modification was a repaint in Firemist Blue (a Cadillac color) prior to my buy in about 1966 in Omaha, NE from second owner Sam Mangiamelli. Originally purchased by a M.Tobias, also of Omaha, NE. I hope this car is still around and would love to know who has her.

This 1954 Jaguar XK120 fixed-head coupe is a left-hand-drive Special Equipment model that was built in December 1953 and delivered new to Los Angeles, California. It was reportedly purchased by the seller from the second owner’s son in 1989. The car is finished in silver blue over a blue leather interior and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 16″ chrome knock-off wire wheels, a burl-wood dash panel, dual SU carburetors, and a 12-volt electrical system with twin six-volt batteries. The left-front wheel cylinder was rebuilt in 2019. This XK120 SE coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a service log book from current ownership, a Jaguar service manual, replacement blue carpets, miscellaneous spare parts, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

Originally Pastel Blue, the body was reportedly refinished in a Cadillac silver blue in the mid-1960s and features split front bumpers, chrome rear bumperettes, and front wing-mounted mirrors. Paint chips are noted around the body, and a spot of peeled paint and a dent can be seen above the left-front bumper.

SE models were equipped with 16″ chrome knock-off wire wheels, which are wrapped in older Michelin X tires on this example. Braking is handled by four-wheel hydraulic drums, and the seller states that the left-front wheel cylinder was rebuilt in October 2019. The seller notes that the car pulls to the left under hard braking.

The interior features a split bench seat upholstered in blue leather, matching door panels, blue carpets, and a burl wood dash panel. Fading and wear can be seen on the carpets, the dash panel shows cracking, and a tear is noted in the headliner. A set of replacement blue carpets can be seen in the gallery and will accompany the car.

Smiths instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The seller states that the tachometer, the speedometer, and the fuel-level gauge do not work, and that a replacement tachometer cable will accompany the car. The five-digit odometer shows 46k miles, approximately 4k of which were added by the seller since 1989. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.4L twin-cam inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 180 horsepower in SE trim, which added higher-lift camshafts and a lightened flywheel. The oil and filter were last changed in May 2020.

The cylinder head stamp reads F1300-8S, which matches the engine number listed on the chassis data plate and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. The engine block stamp matches the head.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The chassis number features an “S” prefix, indicating an SE model. The title lists the chassis number as the VIN but omits the leading “S”. The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers and shows a manufacture date of December 9, 1953.
