This 1953 Jaguar XK120 is a left-hand-drive fixed-head coupe that was acquired by the seller in 2019 and subsequently underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment that was completed in 2022. The work included refinishing the car in green, refreshing the interior, rebuilding the 3.4-liter inline six, and installing a five-speed manual transmission. Additional work at that time included rebuilding the carburetor and converting it to a manual choke, replacing the alternator and wiring, and installing a Tilton pedal assembly, an XK150-sourced rack and pinion steering rack, four-wheel disc brakes, a stainless steel exhaust, and a 12V Optima battery. This XK120 FHC is now offered with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, manufacturer’s literature, a tool roll, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Dove Grey, the car was repainted in dark green following rust and sheet metal repairs. The seller notes that the work took place in 2021. Features include a louvered hood, a split windshield, headlight guards, a polished fuel filler cap, and a leather hood strap.
Black 16″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoffs and mounted with Firestone Deluxe Champion tires. A full-size spare is located in the trunk. The car has been fitted with an XK150 steering rack, GAZ dampers, billet aluminum front brake calipers, XJ rear calipers, dual Tilton brake master cylinders, and braided stainless hoses.
The cabin has been fitted with bolstered sport seats and the rear bulkhead was modified to accommodate taller drivers. The refurbishment also included refinishing the wood trim. Equipment includes lap seatbelts, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, and an adjustable Tilton pedal assembly.
A wood-trimmed steering wheel sits to the left of centralized Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, less than a hundred of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt by Modern Performance in Largo, Florida circa 2021. The carburetors were also rebuilt and converted to manual chokes, and an alternator and 12-volt Optima battery are installed. A Type C cam cover is installed, but the engine is not equipped with a Type C cylinder head.
Engine stamping W7786-8 matches the number listed on the underhood identification plate and the JDHT certificate.
The seller notes that the five-speed manual transmission is a Broadsport unit from Guy Broad Parts. The car is also equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system and a Tilton clutch master cylinder.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date in March 1953 and lists original colors, equipment, engine number, and distribution through Max Hoffman of New York.
