This 1952 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe was produced in June 1952 and originally distributed in the US by Charles Hornburg of Los Angeles. It is finished in British Racing Green over red leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car is said to have spent time in Switzerland and Colorado and was featured on BaT before being acquired by the seller in July 2015. Work carried out under prior ownership included repainting the body, refreshing the interior, replacing the transmission and wheels, and installing an aluminum radiator and a dual exhaust system. Equipment includes Wilwood front disc brakes, 16″ knock-off wire wheels, driving lights, a spin-on oil filter assembly, 3″ competition lap belts, and bucket seatbacks. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale. This XK120 coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, service records, spare leather upholstery, removed parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Delivered from the factory in Bronze, the car was repainted in British Racing Green under prior ownership. Features include a leather hood strap, split chrome front bumpers, driving lights, chrome side mirrors, a Monza-style fuel filler cap, rear bumperettes, and dual polished exhaust outlets. The seller notes that two vertical bars have been removed from the grille. Stone chips are present on the front fascia, and the paint is cracked around the right headlight, on the left front fender, and around the rear glass.
Chrome 16” wire wheels wear two-eared knock-off spinners and are wrapped in 195/75 Avon Avanza AV9 tires. A full-size spare is housed in the trunk. Work during current ownership included installing Wilwood front disc brakes and an aftermarket sway bar, rebuilding the steering box, servicing the rear wheel hubs, and replacing the left rear brake cylinder, right front hub, and front wheel bearings. The rear springs have nine leaves and are stiffer than the stock setup according to the seller.
The cabin is said to have been refreshed under prior ownership and features red leather seats along with color-coordinated door panels, dashboard accents, and carpets. Aftermarket bucket seatbacks were fitted in 2016, and additional amenities include burl wood accents, roll-down windows, a passenger grab handle from a Bentley, RJS 3″ lap belts, and a glovebox. A panel mounted under the dash houses controls for the auxiliary driving lights, electric cooling fan override, and clock. Additional work in 2016 included lowering the position of the clutch and brake pedals, adding a dedicated circuit for auxiliary accessories, and repairing the left window regulator, left door lock, and headlight wiring. The left door panel is torn near the window crank.
The 15″ Bluemels steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer, a combination oil and fuel level gauge, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 6k miles, approximately 4k of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown, and the seller states that the speedometer reads approximately 10 mph low.
The 3.4L twin-cam inline-six features dual SU carburetors, an aluminum radiator, a dual exhaust system, and a replacement C-type cylinder head. A lightened flywheel is reportedly fitted, and service during current ownership included rebuilding the carburetors, overhauling the generator, relocating the fuel filter, resealing the cam cover, tachometer drive fitting, and external oil pipe fitting, installing a 14″ electric cooling fan, fuel pressure regulator and gauge, and spin-on oil filter assembly, and replacing the fuel line, water pump, freeze plugs, battery ground cable, and voltage regulator. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.
The five-speed manual transmission was installed under prior ownership, and the removed Moss transmission is included in the sale.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows the original configuration and colors, along with chassis, engine, body, and gearbox numbers.
