Car at auction 2/23
www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1951-jaguar-xk120-coupe-n90Plg
Auction description:
1952 Jaguar XK120 FHC
Colour Green
Odometer 33,363 Miles
Engine size 3400
Seller Type Private
Town Dublin
Location International
Country Ireland
Imported from America in 1993 and extensively restored
Part of a Jaguar collection for the last 28 years
Good condition overall
First registered in 1952 in USA
Re-imported to Ireland in 1993 and subject to a two-year restoration by specialist restoration company
Converted to RHD
Documented notes on the extent of the restoration and early service history have sadly been misplaced
Purchased by the current owner in 1995, since which time it has been used very sparingly and was displayed and stored in a larger Jaguar collection
MOT and Road Tax exempt
Some receipts for servicing and works through the years
Original toolkit, spare wheel, jack and wheel brace
2 keys
Acquired by the current vendor in 1995, the car is in good condition throughout and is only being offered up for auction due to the need to reduce the size of the collection.
Since 1995 the car has been mainly dry stored with no exposure to the elements, but run and maintained regularly to keep everything working nicely.
The Interior
All Black Connelly leather interior in excellent condition
Interior shows signs of wear and tear throughout the cabin but is in overall very good condition and just needs some cleaning and tidying up in places
Excellent leather seats with no rips or tears
No cracks to dashboard but wooden veneer needs attention in places
Interior trim in good condition throughout but the driver’s window winder requires fixing
Wool headlining in good condition with no sagging
Period radio
All gauges and dials work
Door cards all good
Carpets in good condition
Complete and original interior
All electrics and functions are reported to be working correctly
The interior is in good overall original condition having been re-trimmed during its restoration and other than a few small areas the interior cabin presents extremely well, oozing character and class.
The Exterior
The car was completely stripped to bare metal and resprayed in Green in 1993
Excellent body and paintwork
Original wheels and hubcaps are all present and the chrome hub caps and wheel surrounds need replacing or refurbishing
Good tyres at each corner
Few small marks to be found in the otherwise excellent paintwork
Badges and external trim all present with pretty good chrome showing some very light surface pitting and light corrosion
Front grill is showing signs of pitting and surface corrosion
Engine bay would be nice if detailed
Underneath appears good, clean and solid
Lights all work and are free from any cracks or damage
Clean and dry boot area containing the correct spare wheel, original toolkit and jack
The car presents extremely well having sat in a dry stored position as part of a larger Jaguar collection for the last 28 years, with little exposure to the elements.
The fixed roof and sleek curvaceous lines of the car give it that unmistakable classic look of the early Jaguars with its distinctive front grill and lights together with its promise of exhilarating performance from the legendary straight-six engine.
The Mechanics
3.4 litre engine
4-speed manual transmission
All major components stripped down and rebuilt in 1993
Converted to RHD
Complete new wiring loom fitted
New steering worm fitted
New brake seals and pipes fitted
Stainless steel exhaust
Gear box overhauled
New engine bearings, seals and gaskets fitted
Carbs reconditioned
High speed starter motor fitted
Master battery isolation switch fitted
Dry stored for the last 28 years
The vendor advises that the car is in good mechanical shape, starting and driving very well though he has noticed a low oil pressure reading and heavy oil consumption, which require further investigation.
Having sat in a collection for many years the vendor advises that a change of oils and fluids would be prudent but otherwise the car is ready to drive away, with the oil pressure being the only possible issue to investigate.
