Sold for $3,506 after 17 bids, Medinah, Illinois, United States, seller gidneycloyd

Sellers description:
1950's Jaguar XK120 Owner's Delivery Packet. If you own the real car, you need this! The outer paper envelope measures about 7 3/4" x 10 1/4". All pieces were printed in England. I think that this was given out at dealerships when the new owner took delivery of his new Jaguar. In addition to the envelope, there are 8 separate pieces of interesting accompanying literature. The whole set looks as though it was well cared for by the original owner but shows signs of use. It is complete, all original and in very good condition. It came in a collection I recently acquired. The original owner started collecting car brochures when he was just nine years old in 1942. In his adult years he almost always owned sports cars.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
