Car was at auction 9/10

Auction description:
Sale 18216 - Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia, 17 Sep 2010
Goodwood Revival, Chichester, Sussex
Lot No: 363
1952 Jaguar XK120 Coupé
Registration no. YPN 635
Chassis no. 679445

Estimate: £56,000 - 62,000, € 68,000 - 75,000

An original left-hand drive model, this XK120 fixed-head coupé was sold new in the USA via Jaguar's West Coast importer Hornburg of Los Angeles in March 1952. The car is believed to have been imported in 1989 into Germany, where it was restored before coming to the UK in 1998 and being acquired by well known Jaguar enthusiast, Roy Hatfield. Further extensive work was then undertaken by XK specialists Derek Watson and Ken Jenkins, including conversion to right-hand drive, fitting a 4.2-litre engine equipped with triple 2" SU carburettors, and installing an all-synchromesh four-speed gearbox with overdrive. This work was featured in the March 1999 edition of 'XK' magazine, a copy of which is in the history file.
This is a very handsome example with louvred bonnet, leather bonnet straps and Monza filler cap. The mechanical specification also includes disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, aluminium radiator, telescopic rear shock absorbers, poly-bushed front suspension, etc. The batteries have been relocated under the front wing as in later XKs.
In 1999 'YPN 635' participated in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the XK120's famous timed runs at Jabbeke in Belgium where it recorded a terminal speed of 131.8mph. In 2003 the car was acquired for the collection of a major Jaguar distributor, since when it has been used sparingly.
This is a very sporting Jaguar combining the sublime looks of the XK120 FHC with sensible mechanical upgrades for modern performance motoring. These modifications have been properly undertaken by XK experts and the result is a car that has tremendous performance and drives superbly. Described as in generally excellent condition with good paint and chrome, it is offered with a detailed history file including MoTs dating back to 1998, JDHT Heritage certificate, FIVA identity card, current road fund licence, MoT to June 2011 and Swansea V5C document.

Lot 273 - 1952 Jaguar XK120 Fixedhead Coupé
Registration YPN 635
Chassis Number 679445
Engine Number W4390-8
Odometer reading 41,995 miles
Estimate £78,000 - £90,000

This XK120 Fixedhead Coupé was delivered new to the USA in 1952 and then returned to the UK in the late 1990's were it was restored and up-rated by Roy Hatfield of Sheffield to drive in the Monte Carlo classic rally. The upgrades included converting the car to righthand drive, fitting a 4.2 litre engine with triple carburettors, lightened flywheel and competition clutch. Other modifications included an all synchromesh gearbox with overdrive, rack and pinion steering, servo assisted brakes, front brakes replaced with discs and calipers, aluminium radiator, up-rated alternator, louvered bonnet with bonnet strap and stainless steel exhaust system. Finished in champagne with recently fitted red leather bucket seats, this excellent XK120 Coupé is supplied with a V5C registration document, a large file of invoices, XK Magazines with articles relating to Roy Hatfield and the XK120 rebuild and photographs of the rebuild. This is a well built, reliable rally car which would still be happy to be taken to the South of France or the local historic meeting.
