1952 Jaguar XK-120, This car was originally imported through Max Hoffman in New York City in 1952, Hoffman was responsible for bringing many great European cars to America. It spent much of its early life in the New York area with later life spent in Florida. This is the 410th Fixed Head Coupe built.

This car was purchased in 2006 as an uncompleted restoration work in progress – still with Florida plates. The restorer had passed away mid-project and the car sat partially finished for 20 years until the former owner got ill and sold the car. Restoration work that had been done at that time was not up to par – the car was then fully gutted and a 7-year Professional nut & bolt Concours level cost-no-object restoration ensued. OEM parts were sourced around the globe. The engine was completely rebuilt. All wiring was replaced with correct cotton loom. New woodwork was made in England by a former Rolls Royce employee. A proper and correct Connolly leather and Wilton wool carpeted interior was installed. Chrome, lights, instruments were all done.

The front brakes have been replaced with discs to make the car more driveable. Other upgrades to make it more user friendly to drive – 5 speed Getrag transmission, front disk brakes, aluminum rad. The original matching numbers Moss transmission is available.

The car is painted Indigo Blue, a correct Jaguar factory color for 1956 but not 1952. This is the same color as the Ecurie Ecosse cars from the Scottish Racing Team of the same period. The interior color is biscuit.

The vehicle was powered by a matching numbers 160 horsepower, 3.4 liter, inline-six cylinder engine with twin SU carburetors. 120-mph was the promised speed from the factory, the top speed of the vehicle was around 126-132 mph depending on the trim of the vehicle – it was the fastest production car available at that time.

The car has been shown at the Amelia Island Concours in 2019, the Concours d'Elegance of America at St Johns in 2013, the Inaugural Cobble Beach Concours in 2013, has won numerous JCNA awards and was part of the Art & the Automobile display at the Toronto International Auto Show.

The XK120 Coupe is one of the most beautiful sports cars produced of all time - sensuous lines with robust performance.

    Price: $160,000 obo

This 1952 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe was produced on February 25, 1952, and it was originally distributed in the US by Max Hoffman of New York. The seller purchased the car in 2006 and subsequently commissioned a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment that consisted of stripping the body to bare metal prior to metalwork and a repaint in Indigo Blue, reupholstering of the Biscuit interior utilizing Wilton wool carpeting and Connolly leather, replacement of the interior wood trim, a rebuild of the 3.4-liter inline-six, and installation of a five-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes an aluminum radiator, XK150 front disc brakes, 16” wire wheels, a stainless-steel exhaust system, Lucas SLR700 driving lights, and a leather bonnet strap. This XK120 coupe is now offered in Canada with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, records from the refurbishment, an operating handbook, an owner’s manual, and an Ontario registration in the seller’s name.

The car was finished from the factory in silver and was stripped to bare metal and had metalwork performed before it was repainted Indigo Blue during the refurbishment. Exterior details include a leather bonnet strap, tri-bar headlamps, driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, a locking fuel filler flap, rear bumperettes, and split front bumpers that are said to have been re-chromed at the time of the refurbishment.

Chrome-finished 16” wire wheels wear two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with Michelin Pilot X radial tires. A full-size spare is housed in the trunk. The car is equipped with front disc brakes. During the refurbishment the suspension was overhauled and Spax shocks, thicker anti-roll bars, polyurethane bushings, and leather leaf spring gaiters were installed.

The seats were re-trimmed in Biscuit Connolly leather during the refurbishment, at which time the wood dashboard and door panel accents were replaced along with the carpeting. The firewall was moved forward on the left side during the refurbishment, and replacement pedals have been installed. Additional details consist of a locking glove compartment, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, tinted sun visors, and a storage compartment behind the seats.

The four-spoke black steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that was refurbished by Nisonger Instruments in 2012 and consists of a reverse-sweep tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer was reset following the refurbishment and shows 546 miles, though total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six was rebuilt during the refurbishment and is fitted with dual SU carburetors, a gear-reduction starter, and a jubilee hose clamp kit. A replacement oil pump, fuel pump, and wiring harness have been installed along with an aluminum radiator and a single 12-volt battery. An oil change was performed in March 2022.

    Cylinder head stamping W4339-8.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual transmission. A replacement fuel tank has been installed as well as a stainless-steel exhaust system. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the original configuration and colors, along with chassis, engine, body, and gearbox numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.
