The earliest xk120fhc.Chassis no1 lhd.Chassis no1rhd was broken up by factory as it was a pre production car. It was owned by Jaguar as works car for Motor Shows and photo shoots..Converted in 1952 to rhd and given to Peter Whitehead Le Mans winner 1951 C type. I have owned car since 1967.

I have found another Twilight Blue car on database chassis no 672593 maybe this can be added now as an official Jaguar colour. I have a sample of original colour.

    David,
The colour looks a little greener than 672593, a function of artificial lighting perhaps?

I have back the original registration as it left the factory LWK 996. Peter Ingram has written engine and gearbox numbers not matching but they both are original as on data plate.

I would like to confirm I have got this wrong and apologise for casting doubt over your very important and no doubt valuable car. There is no question that you have a matching numbers car which I have confirmed with factory records.
It would be nice to know if 679001 still has its early registration of EAN 100

I have back the original registration as it left factory LWK 996. The EAN 100 number was on the car when i bought it in 1967 but i lost the buff log book proving this and was not allowed this registration back. I think the original reg is more important.

To DAVID ROPER - Hi David, I suppose that your car was sound, so it is not correct that the first 2 120 FHC had chromed sidelight housings ? And that the first dozen of FHCs had smaller / thinner sidelight housings, similar to MK II ?
Some people in US thinks the last thing . What I mean is : your car had normal 120/late sidelight housings ?
    let me know, best regards
    Ferruccio, italy

    2010-09-30 15:52:08 | David Roper writes:

Hello Ferruccio. It is correct the first 120 FHC had the chrome housings but i think it was 3 cars 669001,679001 and 679002. My car was made with the chrome sidelight housings but it was not released by factory to Peter Whitehead until 1952. At this time it was updated by factory with the standard housings. The car is shown in Clausager's XK120 book as it was made, bottom of page 94 and top of page 95.

Hi David, sorry, but IMHP the interior does look exactly like the Jaguar "Blue" of those days was. Aka "Pale Blue" (MKV & MKVII) and "Light Blue" in later cars, it sure does look grey, unless you compare it to the very light shade of grey Jaguar called "Grey" in those days. Yes, color is hard to match in photos, but I have seen quite a lot and was recently able to get a booklet of Jaguar trim samples with the Connolly codes on the back from the 1950's which makes matching a bit easier. BTW it would be lovely if you could add and confirm the data (colours, build date etc.) with JHT. My MKV DHC ch.# 647194 also originally had a "Pale Blue" interior (it only says "Blue" in the build sheet) and will have again some day. Cheers!

    2012-12-04 17:14:14 | David Roper writes:

Hello Pekka, the original trim colour as i understand was called french grey, which is a grey/blue It was much more grey than blue. The colour i have used is very close to the original colour on seats, these covers were too bad too reuse. The original door trims on car were also this colour in leather not vinyl. At present i have them in vinyl, at some stage i will redo them in leather. The original carpets were also a blue grey but this time more blue than grey. I couldn't find a suitable match and have done them in the best i could find. I can't find my heratige cert at present will tell you details when i find.

    Dear David,

Congratulations on doing such a magnificent job restoring 0001. It is a real piece of history. I have a couple of factory photos showing a FHC with chrome running lights that I think could be yours. One photo is DEFINATELY a blue car. I will post them if I can figure out how to.

I am certain your 120 is very near and dear to you, but I wanted to inquire if you would consider selling, if the price was right. I am coming into a significant amount of money this month. Have owned other XK120's, but this is something special! If nothing else would love to see it on one of my trips to the UK if you are showing it at some point.

If we have something to discuss, please call or email me!

I have seen on the books the well known pictures of this 120 FHC number one, the Twilight Blue one, and its dash and cockpit were totally different from the production ones we know.

But probably it was updated to "normal" dash later, as factory did regarding the front sidelights ?

About Twilight Blue color, it was almost very rare, as its seems from Heritage :

46 FHC, LHD only, and 38 roadsters , confirming to be the rarest color in steel 120s ( except special orders ) . I suspect also that on the very very early 120 FHCs, when with Blue interior, few could be Duo Blue. But stil not confirmed.
