This 1954 Jaguar XK120 was purchased by the seller’s father in 1988 and taken through a frame-off restoration between 2000 and 2007. It is finished in Suede Green over a matching leather interior and powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors, a black convertible top, driving lights, body-color 16″ wheels, burl wood trim, lap belts, a CD stereo, and Smiths gauges. The car won best in class awards at two regional car club shows in 2011 and 2012. This XK120 drophead coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, a service manual, two hardcover restoration guides, a tool roll, restoration notes and receipts, and a clean Arkansas title in the name of the seller’s late father.
The car was refinished in the factory Suede Green and is equipped with a black convertible top, a split front windshield, chrome front bumpers, front driving lights, and chrome rear bumperettes.
The 16″ steel wheels are painted to match the body and mounted with 185-series Michelin X tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums, and service in 2024 included replacing the master cylinder and flushing the fluid.
The cabin has been reupholstered in Suede Green leather with matching carpets and features burl wood trim, lap seatbelts, a CD player, and aftermarket speakers.
The four-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a telescoping column and fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Neither the clock nor the fuel level gauge works. The five-digit odometer was reset during the restoration and now shows around 40 miles.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt and an electric auxiliary radiator fan was added during the restoration process. Service in 2024 included flushing the coolant, changing the oil, changing the spark plugs, rebuilding the carburetors, and replacing the thermostatic switch and the solenoid assembly on the starting carburetor. The batteries were also replaced with original-style 6V batteries. The seller notes an oil leak from the rear of the engine.
The chassis number (677881) and the engine number (W 9491-8) match those found on the removed identification plate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
Photos of the build process come with the car.
