Ebay item 9/5/06
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-XK-120-DHC-XK-120-DHC-SPLENDID-RSTRD-1954-JAGUAR- ...
Current bit $32,600 reserve not met 5 bids, 5 days left in auction. 67k miles.

Sellers description:
his is a splendid 1954 XK120 Drop Head Coupe.

There have been three owners of this car, the current one in possession since 1991.

A frame on restoration, starting with a rust free car, was achieved between the years of 1999 to 2001.

Unusual attention was taken to massage this car into a usable driver, with high detail. Included in the list of work performed were the following tasks.

Complete new interior from Bassett in Rhode Island USA, in the original color.

Original burl mahogany fascia refinished.

Re-chroming of all of the original bright work, sand blasting and undercoating of the frame, and a bare metal refinishing of the body in the original color, including the engine bay and boot areas.

Glasurit paint is the product that was used.

New suspension installed with original gaiters which were in excellent original condition.

A new OEM wiring harness, and three piece convertible top, with felt headliner, by Bassett.

Complete new brake system with all components replaced.

A neatly installed electric fan helps control engine temperature if needed.

New stainless steel fuel tank, and front to back exhaust system.

New boot carpeting, complete with replacement tool roll, and proper tools.

In 2005, new Firestone Caballero radial tires were installed, to improve handling.

Usable original bias ply whitewalls have preserved if wanted.

Not installed, but part of the package, is the original tube type radio, which still functions, and two new chrome trim pieces, just purchased, for the top.

Original King of the Road driving lights are mounted on the front.

The finished product is a water glass smooth engine and drive train, and a solid, rattle free ride.

It provides an unusually pleasant and spirited ride for this model.

We have the Heritage Certification, and it is numbers matched.

This battleship grey beauty has taken two first places in the driven class at JCNA Concours events, the last in 2005.

Pampered and protected from the elements, this fine Jaguar gets exercised only when conditions permit, and has never been in the wet since completion.

I don't think this is the same car as recorded at XK60. The UK car is registered WAS 936. It also turned up at XK70, the chassis number is S677314; there was no record of the current keeper.

2018-07-28 15:34:38 | Paul Whitfield writes:

My previous comment wasn't very well worded. What I mean is there is another car in UK with a very similar reg WAS 936. Lots of scope for confusion.

Yes Paul I have registration WAS 936 on 677314 now possibly in Switzerland Black and a good set of numbers. I believe the US car is

- High-quality restoration

- No reserve

This car left the factory on 6 July 1953 and was sold 7 days later by the New York dealer Max Hoffman. It was elegantly finished in 'Battleship Grey', with a red leather interior and black hood. As its Jaguar Heritage record confirms, its first owner, from Connecticut, opted for a manual gearbox. At the end of the 1990s, this handsome convertible was completely restored, as can be seen from a file of bills and photographs. The work was done with care: the body was sound and the paint, in the car's original colour, is of a high standard. The body seals are in good used condition. The black hood is lined and in perfect condition, as is its cover. The red leather upholstery, with matching carpets and overmats, has been fully restored. The attractive wooden dashboard now has a speedometer marked in km/h which shows a total of 4099km. All the electrical equipment works, the wiring loom having been completely remade in cotton. The engine block and cylinder head match the original numbers; the entire engine was restored and is therefore in perfect working order. The Firestone Cavallino Sport tyres are little worn but date back to 2002. Supplied with its original owner's manual, this drophead coupé has been restored to a high standard in accordance with its original specification and is ready for the road.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
