Monaco auction

Completed on 17th August 1954, '676281' is one of 6,437 left-hand drive roadsters built. Its accompanying Heritage Certificate reveals that the XK120 was despatched to Jaguar's East Coast, USA distributor Hoffman in New York and that it left the factory finished in cream with red interior trim and a black soft-top. The car's first owner was Baron J Metzger of Mount Vernon, New York, USA. Its subsequent ownership is not known prior to 1991 when the XK was registered to a Mr John Jeffrey Isel of Clearwater, Florida. That same year the Jaguar passed to Mr Herbert Hilger, known professionally as Tony Marshall, the immensely popular German singer/entertainer, whose biggest international hit was the 1971 song, Schöne Maid. Marshall passed away last year in Baden-Baden, aged 85.

Remaining in Germany, the car was next owned (briefly) in 2003 by Mr Thomas Kaysser of Leutenbach before passing that same year to Professor Hans-Ulrich Sachs of Bremen, a prominent German businessman, who for a time was a member of the Brand Board of Management at Volkswagen. Our vendor, a leading German private collector, purchased the XK120 from Professor Sachs in July 2018 (bill of sale on file). Since then the car has benefited from extensive professional refurbishment undertaken by Hans-Robert Schramm GmbH and CJ Automobil Service (bills on file). Also in the file are a 2021 and 2010 FIVA Identity Cards; 2022 and 2020 technical inspections; a copy State of Florida Certificate of Title and title reassignment document to Herbert Hilger (Tony Marshall); a copy German Fahrzeugbrief in Professor Sachs' name; and a professional condition assessment carried out by Auto-Zeugnis. This assessment states: "The Jaguar XK120 OTS inspected on 04.09.2018 was in great and well-maintained condition. The vehicle is in a serviceable condition and has been continuously maintained and cared for."
