I have owned this 1954 XK 120 SE for 45 years.

The paint and body are in excellent shape and it runs as good as it looks. The odometer reads 74572 which I believe is correct. It only had around 67000 miles on the clock when I bought it in 1970. The engine is from an XK140 but I have the original numbers matching engine in pieces, which is how I got it when I bought the car. I do not have the original number matching head. The gearbox numbers and all other numbers are correct.

The body was stripped to bare metal and had only surface rust at that time. The car was originally sold in Los Angeles, California according to the Jaguar Heritage certificate that I obtained. It has leather interior with a like new top. I also have 3 un-restored side curtains that will go with the car as well as the matching engine.

The restoration was body on frame and it took me almost 10 years to complete. I strived to complete this car as original as possible, which required many hours of research since the work was done pre-internet.

The brake system was sleeved in brass and all new brake shoes were installed in turned and trued drums about 4 years ago. I just replaced the batteries as well as oil and filter change this spring. This is a sound strong running Jag that has always been in a heated garage and well cared for and lightly driven since its completion.

This 1954 Jaguar XK120 is a left-hand-drive roadster that was built on July 12, 1954 and dispatched to Charles Hornburg in Los Angeles, California on July 29th. The car was acquired by the current owner in 1970 as a non-running project, and refurbishment completed over the years included a bare-metal repaint in red, interior refresh, an overhaul of the brake system, and a recoated fuel tank. Power is provided by a replacement 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six coupled with a 4-speed manual gearbox, and maintenance performed in 2018 included rebuilding the carburetors and fuel pump, repairing the tachometer, and a tune-up. This XK120 is now offered by an independent British auto repair shop in Oregon on behalf of the current owner. The sale includes its disassembled original engine and C-type cylinder head, a soft top, an older set of side curtains, service records, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clear Oregon title in the current owner’s name.

Originally finished in cream, the body received a two-stage repaint in a shade of BMW red in 1989 following the completion of bodywork. A black convertible top and an older set of side curtains are included in the sale.

16” knock-off wire wheels have been powder coated silver, and the brake drums were painted body color. Brake work performed in the mid 2000s included sleeving the wheel cylinders and dual master cylinder with brass. The Firestone tires are old and should be replaced per the current owner.

The interior features black leather seats with red piping, matching carpets, and vinyl door panels in place of the original red upholstery. A stock steering wheel is retained, and the Smiths tachometer was rebuilt last year. Approximately 75k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer, though total mileage is unknown. The heater fan is said to only work on the highest setting, and other noted issues include an inoperable clock and turn signals that do not automatically cancel.

The 3.4L twin-cam inline-six is believed to be from a 1957 XK140 and features a replacement cylinder head. The dual SU carburetors were rebuilt last year, as were the fuel pump and distributor. New fuel hoses and a starting thermostat were also installed, and a tune-up was performed.

Rust-through is noted in two areas of the underbody. Additional photos of the underside are viewable in the gallery, which also contains images of the disassembled original engine, C-type cylinder head, and other spare parts.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows a build date of July 12, 1954 and lists the original colors as cream over a red interior with a black top.
