This 1954 Jaguar XK120 roadster was acquired in 1978 by the current owner’s late grandfather and was inherited by the owner in 2009. The car was repainted in maroon during a refurbishment in the early 1980s, and power is supplied by a numbers-matching 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include matching maroon leather upholstery, a white soft top, removable rear wheel spats, front fog lamps, and chrome bumpers and trim. This XK120 is now being offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with factory manuals, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, tonneau cover, records and receipts from the refurbishment, removable side curtains, and a conditional Georgia title in the owner’s name.

Factory-finished in Pastel Blue (J 867), the exterior received a driver-quality repaint in its current shade of maroon in the 1980s. Features include a white soft top with removable side curtains, rear wheel spats, fender-mounted side mirrors, Lucas front fog lamps with yellow-tinted lenses, chrome bumpers and trim, and a removable white tonneau cover that can be seen fitted in the gallery below. Various paint flaws are noted by the seller, including areas of touch-up and spider web cracking. The passenger mirror was replaced in 2019.

The body-colored steel wheels feature Jaguar hubcaps with polished trim rings and are wrapped in whitewall tires that were fitted in 2017. Additional work that year included replacement of the brake master cylinder and all four wheel cylinders. The front brakes were re-lined in 2019, and a full-size spare wheel is found in the rear storage area.

Previously trimmed in blue, the cabin has been reupholstered in maroon leather with matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include a padded center arm rest, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, passenger-side grab handle, and map pockets in both door panels.

A four-spoke steering wheel with a lace-up cover sits ahead of a custom-fabricated wood dashboard that houses a suite of Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and displays for amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just over 21k miles, though total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment and features dual SU carburetors along with an electric choke. The results of a compression test in March 2021 can be seen in the gallery below, and a replacement battery and starter were installed in January 2021.

Engine block stamping F1615-8 matches the number stamped on the cylinder head and chassis tag as well as that listed on the Heritage Trust Certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and additional underbody images are provided in the gallery below.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the original colors and production date, as well as factory chassis and drivetrain numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
