According to its certificate of authenticity from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, in 1953, this handsome Jaguar roadster was purchased by its first owner, as resident of Saratoga, New York. Apparently, he cherished his sporty XK120 and kept it for almost 30 years. In 1982, the Jaguar was acquired by its current owner, a fellow resident of upstate New York who proceeded to retain several locally known craftsmen to conduct a frame-off restoration. The work, which took over four years and cost approximately $50,000, included acid-dipping the frame, rebuilding the engine and transmission, and installing a new clutch. A new, correct biscuit and red interior was sourced from Suffolk & Turley, the renowned Jaguar coach-trimming specialists located in England.

Once returned to a fresh state of tune and presentation, this wonderful Jaguar was occasionally taken to local car shows where it never failed to impress with its beautiful deep coat of black paint, gleaming disc wheels and elegant rear fender skirts. Several times over the past 10 years, the owner entered the car in a four-day autumn tour of the Adirondack Mountains that is staged annually by the Saratoga Automobile Museum. Starting reliably and performing admirably at these events, the Jaguar displayed the beneficial effects of its consistent service and maintenance by Aaron Couper of Couper’s Classic Cars in West Pawlet, Vermont. Mr. Couper has specialized in the repair and restoration of British classic cars since 1990 and was faithfully charged with the care of this XK120 throughout the last decade. During that time, in addition to routinely servicing the car as needed, Mr. Couper upgraded the exhaust system to a stainless steel dual-pipe arrangement and installed Koni shocks and a new starter.

Currently displaying just over 50,000 miles, this XK120 is certified by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust to be a matching-numbers example and is accompanied by photographs and receipts of its restoration work, as well as the original owner’s manual and a partial assortment of original tools. Recently, the car has been fastidiously detailed by Ensign Restoration Services of Albany, New York, resulting in superb paint, chrome, two-tone interior and engine bay presentation. Regularly serviced by a knowledgeable expert and still displaying the benefits of its well-preserved older restoration, this XK120 Roadster could be enjoyed with confidence and exhibited with pride.
