A great find at a French auction house but a mystery too. This car could be 671226 - the body number fits that sequence better. It could be a modified version of the previously extraordinary modified Girtler / Ebeling car (see page 36 XK Gazette May 2006) The auction description says this car appears in Roland Urban's book The Metamorphosis of the Jaguar (ISBN 2-86911-137-1) on page 306. It is believed that the car was transformed in the early 1950s for the then owner to enter the Pan America Race. The main features were the fitting of a second fuel tank with both having Le Mans type quick action filler caps. Two spare wheels/tyres fitted into pods on the front wings and the addition of navigational instruments on the dashboard This car was imported into France in 1992 and now has a 140 style radiator grill and two extra air scoops. It is completed with dual SS exhausts and 15 inch Borani knock-off wheels Estimated price Euros 20 - 22,000

To make sense of the above the auction house catalogued it as 671326 but wrong

There should be a law against this sort of thing.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
