Auction description:
1950 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster
Lot Number 3108
$150,000 - $175,000
RM | Auctions - AUBURN FALL 29 AUGUST - 1 SEPTEMBER 2019
This 1950 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster on offer, chassis no. 670499, is an early steel-bodied U.S.-delivery example, distributed through Max Hoffman of New York. While the first owner was not recorded, a Mr. Odell of Delaware acquired the car sometime in the 1970s. He would own the car until 1987, when it was acquired by current ownership. The car would remain dormant until roughly 2007, when a documented, comprehensive restoration was undertaken, with AACA and JCNA judging standards in mind. Following its completion, the XK 120 would go on to win multiple awards, highlighted by achieving its AACA First Junior followed by its Senior award, both in 2016. The following year, the car achieved two 100-point scores at Jaguar Club Concours events held in Susquehanna Valley and Delaware Valley, achieving a Best in Show at the latter. In 2017 the car ranked 2nd in Class in JCNA National standings, with a 99.943 overall score. Most recently, in 2018 the car achieved the highly coveted AACA First Grand National award.
The Jaguar’s JDHT certificate confirms the car retains its original body, engine, head, and gearbox, and that it was accurately restored to how it left the Jaguar factory many years ago, finished in black with a black top and a biscuit interior with red piping. The car is accompanied by restoration documents, judging sheets, record of parts purchased, service manual, tools, original and reproduction tool pouch, jack, spare, and air pump.
This XK 120 presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored, award-winning example. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection looking to add a quintessential British sports car.

I would have thought that the seats should be all red, not just with with red piping.
But the car is a beauty.

Jeremy,
If the Heritage Certificate (not shown) indicates biscuit and red, it usually means the prominent color is red with the seat flutes and dash (OTS) being biscuit. Some show cars and special order cars have been observed with contrasting piping. Nitpicking one part on what appears to be a well restored car, I think the side curtains are from a later model

This 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster was built on July 20, 1950 and dispatched to US distributor Max Hoffman in its current color combination of black over Biscuit leather with red piping and a black soft top. The car was acquired by the selling dealer from its previous owner of 32 years, who had commissioned a restoration beginning in 2007 and ending nine years later. Features of the steel-bodied XK120 include chrome running lights, studless valve covers, the absence of footwell air vents, and more. Power comes from a numbers-matching 3.4L twin-cam inline-six which is equipped with twin SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. This XK120 is offered with AACA and JCNA judging sheets and trophies, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, factory tools, service and owner’s manuals, brochures, restorations documents, and a clean Pennsylvania title.
This example is reportedly the 314th left-hand drive, steel-bodied XK120 built following the transition from aluminum bodies. The car was repainted in its factory black, and has reportedly been driven just 20 miles since the work was completed in 2016.
Steel wheels come fitted with 6.00-16 Coker Classic bias-ply tires, and fender skirts are affixed in the rear. A black soft top with side curtains is shown mounted in gallery photos below along with close-ups of the finish, brightwork, and lighting.
The cabin is trimmed in Biscuit leather with red piping, and the four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a leather-trimmed dashboard housing black Smiths gauges. The odometer shows under 20 miles, which is said to represent the total driven since completion of the project in 2016.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six features polished studless cam covers and SU carburetors as well as fabric-wrapped hoses, spark plug leads, and other wiring. The cylinder head wears stamp W1763-8, which matches the engine number listed on the Heritage Certificate below. A PDF containing numbers for the engine block, cylinder head, transmission, carburetor, distributor, and generator will accompany the car.
Power is sent to the rear axle through a Moss four-speed manual gearbox. Fluid changes have been carried out according to the selling dealer. Factory tools in pouches are included in the sale along with a parts summary, service manuals, brochures, an air pump, a jack, and a spare tire. The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate notes that the car was dispatched from the factory on July 20th, 1950 finished in black with a Biscuit and Red interior.
Awards received since completion of the work include the following:
May 21, 2016 – First Place at the AACA Easter Spring meet in Vineland, New Jersey

2016 – One of 300 from a group of 3,500 cars nominated for the AACA National Awards
