This 1950 Jaguar XK120 is Chassis #670341 and one of 2,500 examples manufactured for the US during its six-year production run. It has a 3.4 liter dual overhead cam 6 cylinder engine producing 160 horsepower capable of 120mph (hence the 120 denotation). Provided receipts indicate a full restoration in the mid 1990s by Automotive Restorations in Stratford, CT, and comes equipped with a louvered hood, rare Derrington steering wheel, custom fitted luggage rack, an upgraded exhaust, chrome wire wheels and driving lights. It has 13,541 miles, is chassis, body, engine and gearbox numbers matching and comes with a legal box full of maintenance receipts, Jaguar memorabilia and research used by the owner to locate this particular car.
The History of Chassis #670341
While not an aluminum bodied car, this early XK120 arrived from Coventry with a rather unique build sheet, being one of two with a louvered bonnet from the factory. The other being owned by Clark Gable. Chrome wire wheels and driving lights were other rare options from the factory, and previous owners have upgraded the steering wheel to a Derrington (though the original is included), custom fitted a luggage rack, and upgraded the exhaust. The original tool kit and luggage are included in the trunk.
Records indicate this Jaguar XK120 car was a barn find of about 20 years before being sent to Automotive Restorations in Stratford, Connecticut in 1995 for a restoration with a thick binder of receipts for engine and body work totaling almost $100,000. The bodywork is straight and the Silver paint is immaculate. Coaxing the inline 6 fires to life requires little effort even when cold, and the four speed manual transmission shifts with ease.
This car was most recently owned by a Jaguar XK collector, being his 4th after being married in an XK120 in 1957. Chassis #670341 has been a regular entrant in a variety of local Fairfield, Darien, and Greenwich Concours events in Connecticut and is by definition a show car. It was also featured and photographed in the Winter 2010 "Allure of the Jaguar" issue of Hagerty magazine. All that being said, with just over 13,000 miles as shown on the odometer, this is by no means a garage queen, it enjoys being driven.
Following the restoration in 1995 Automotive Restorations have maintained the Jaguar for the duration of at least 2 subsequent Connecticut owners, including the most recent owner who has passed. Chassis #670341 is being sold by the executor of the owners estate and this listing is being managed by Poppy's Classic Car Storage in Danbury, Connecticut where the car is available for viewing by appointment only.
