My alloy XK120 Super Sport is an all original car that I have owned for 40 years. It runs and drives very nicely and I am the fourth owner. I bought it in Missouri when I lived in Michigan. Now it lives with me in sunny California.

Another previously "lost" LHD ALLOY emerges. Built in Dec only one more - number 70 -
was built in 1949. Surely we could be told which country it is in ....even the city!!

I also owned another alloy XK-120, chassis # 670018. In the early 1970s I bought it out of Houston, Texas and eventually traded it to Roland Duce in England, for a 1934 Morgan MX4 Super Sport. When I had the Jaguar it was painted dark green and was not in very good condition as it had been left outside for quite a number of years. Houston is very humid and not kind to cars left outside.

My alloy XK120 Super Sport #670069 has been accepted for display at "The Quail - A Motorsport Gathering" this August during Pebble Beach week. This "survivor" has never been restored, and still runs and drives very nicely. It is far from perfect, but as they say, it can only be original once!

I see 670069 is noted in Anders Clausager's book Jaguar XK 120 in Detail (p.224) as "Exists in Canada " I presume an error. Originally Silver with Biscuit & Red trim

Hello Peter,
I don't have that book, but I do have the car, and I do know its history. And I can say, with certitude, that Clausager's book is wrong, my car has never lived in Canada. However, you are correct, the color it left the factory with was indeed Silver with Biscuit & Red trim. But, before it was delivered by Clayrich Motors in Saint Louis, Missouri, to its original owner Lee Hunter, it was changed to the color it still wears today. The story is that Mr. Hunter disliked "grey" cars and told Clayrich Motors to take the brand new car down to the local Cadillac agency, where Hunter had all his cars painted, and have them paint it "Old English White" which they did. So it left the factory Silver but was delivered to its original owner in Cream-White.

1949 Jaguar Alluminium XK 120 OTS

Presenting one of the most original examples in existance of the pre production alluminium bodied Jaguar XK120 OTS.

Chassis Number: 670069
Engine Number: W1102-8

Being the 69th XK120 built, this car is one of the rare 'alloy' bodied examples built in 1949 and was originally a silver. It was sent to Clayrich Motors, St Louis at the beginning of 1950 and was purchased by Lee Hunter who immediately sent it to his local Cadillac dealership to be painted the colour it wears today. Lee Hunter was an automotive engineer and founded Hunter Engineering which is still in operation.

In 1954 the car passed to Fred Evans who ran a Ford dealership close to Lee Hunter. Fred owned a piece of land next to Hunter Farms which Lee wanted to buy and the deal was struck on the condition the XK120 was part of the land deal. Lee did not want to sell the car, and as such the car is the only vehicle owned by Lee which is not currently present in the Hunter collection of automobiles.

In 1960 the car was sold to Robert Heuermann for $2500. 'Bob' raced the car in over 100 night-time 'checkpoint' rallies sanctioned by the SCCA which took place throughout the Ozarks. Bob and his navigator won over half of the races they entered collecting many badges and trophies with the car.

The car was sold to Peter Zobian in August 1968 after he saw it sitting underneath an Apple tree outside Bob's home. Peter is well known car collector and automobilia trader as well as a leading expert on 'etceterini' cars. Peter displayed the car in 2011 at the Quail motorsport gathering and kept the car until July 2012. Peter sold the car to the current owner after 44 years of ownership.

This is an unrestored car in perfect running order. In 2014 the engine was rebuilt and some of the interior leatherwork was repaired using careful preservation techniques allowing the car to remain one of the most original examples in existence. Complete with original tools and litereature.

I am shocked to see that the person to whom I sold my alloy XK120 after 44 years of my ownership, has now offered it for sale. I had thought that it would not ever be re-sold. I'm sad that I can't afford to buy it back or I would. This car was a loved part of my family and I have many wonderful memories.

The XK120 was launched in open two-seater or (US) roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a testbed and show car for the new Jaguar XK engine. The display car was the first prototype, chassis number 670001. The roadster caused a sensation, which persuaded Jaguar founder and design boss William Lyons to put it into production.

it is incredible that nowadays someone describe this car as "the most original example" being the car repainted in NOT oriƬginal colour !
