Car to be at auction 12/08
www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php

Auction description:
1953 Jaguar XK 120 Fixed Head Coupe – Fast Road Specification
Lot 416
Registration Number: 450 AML
Chassis Number: 669094

Originally sold by Henley‘s in London, it was registered to Mr Reuben Lamont of Norwich in 1955. Mann Egerton then owned the car before it went to Jack Hobson in London later that year. It was the right choice for him as he then went on to own it for 10 years until Dr Gardner acquired it. Time had taken its toll however and in 1986, it was put away by the then owner, Paul Dewhurst. It was bought by the current owner in 1996 who undertook an extremely comprehensive nut and bolt restoration.

It is presented in its original silver livery as well as a number of fast road upgrades. This example benefits from Jaguar Mk. IX disc brakes, front and rear. Twin Lockheed servos are mounted under the offside wing and behind a stainless steel heat shield. Power comes from a high performance Mk. X engine, 3500cc and fitted with an E-Type sump, 9-1 pistons, high capacity oil and water pumps and an XJ6, series III cylinder head. The inlet manifold is from a Jaguar 420 saloon fitted with a pair of SU, 2 inch carburettors. A competition twin stainless steel exhaust system leads off a six branch stainless steel manifold. All this is fed through a Getrag 5 speed gearbox and suspension has been uprated to incorporate telescopic shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar. Hightone Restorations took care of the body with restoration and/or new panels supplied by them. South Cerney Engineering undertook the mechanical elements and Mike Thomas of Twyford Moors fitted the perfect contrasting blue leather trim. This is as good a car as you will find anywhere and provides a stylish alternative to track days and long distance touring. With little adjustment, FIA papers can be obtained and you would be able to attend rallies internationally as well as the odd Concours D‘Elegance. It is that good.

Estimate: £50000 - £60000

I rescued this car from Wales and restored it prior to sale in 2008. The registration number is original and the body was the last completed by Classic Parts and Panels before they went bust. Since selling the car some verry sensible mods have been undertaken, namely, rack and pinion steering, alloy radiator and modified footwell and hydraulic clutch. There are a number of minor inaccuracies in the 1998 auction description above. I know this car was raced by the owner before Dewhurst but have no records to prove it.

• Desirable performance upgrades
• Stunning in silver with rich blue interior
• Perfect for long tours and rallies
• Known history; Heritage Certificate

This particular Jaguar XK120 was supplied new through Henley's of London in January 1954, to a Mr. R.G. Lamont of Norwich. With a known ownership chain from new, it passed through two owners before being acquired by a Mr. Rickmansworth of Cardiff. He was renowned for his motorsport activity, and it is thought that he competed in this particular car. The Jaguar subsequently passed to a Mr. Paul Dewhurst, where it was laid up and stored in a garage for 10 years.

In 2008 the owner bought the car in very good condition but had a unique vision for the car, wanting to drive it in comfort and at greater speed over long distances on European tours. Modifications included a high performance Jaguar 3.8-litre engine with an E- Type sump, new pistons, high capacity oil and water pumps, as well as an upgraded head with SU two-inch carburettors. The original gearbox was replaced with a five-speed Getrag unit, a prudent modification for high-speed touring. It also received rack-and-pinion graduated power steering, which is an immense improvement over the original worm-and-sector unit. To give greater braking power, the car has also been up-rated to disk brakes front and rear with twin servos. The interior now features bucket seats for greater support, and the pedal box was also modified for a more comfortable driving position.

Painted silver with a beautiful blue interior, it is hard to imagine a more attractive Jaguar. Expertly prepared, it is an automobile that is most suitable for any high-speed tour or rally and comes complete with its original registration documentation as well as Heritage Certificate.
