Car to be at auction 5/11
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php

Auction description:
Lot 111 - 1953 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe
111 - 1953 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe
Estimate: £45,000 - £50,000
Registration Number: UVK 420
Chassis Number: 669070

The Fixed Head example on offer today was registered on the 8th December 1953, and for many years was in the ownership of a titled collector who ran a successful Jaguar dealership in the 1950s and 1960s. It passed to his son in 1981, and then to the current owner in 1994.

The car has been serviced and maintained by the respected specialist Classic Marques of Northern Ireland, and restored in the 1970s from the chassis up by marque restorers Oldham & Crowther. In the early 1990s a bare metal repaint was undertaken, as was re-chroming of exterior brightwork. Lastly a screw-on oil filter and oil pressure relief valve conversion have been added to the car, a big plus for ease of maintenance.

Now showing a recorded mileage of 56,689, believed to be correct, UVK 420 is described as being an excellent example of an XK120 for driving or touring. The car will be supplied with the current V5, and original service books and manuals, and with an MoT until 2012.

Presented in opalescent blue with a navy blue leather interior, this wonderful car is one of the best XK 120s we have seen.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
